Sometimes the story is good, but a lot of the time you have the stories that take over the game and it more like you are playing a bad movie than a game.
Does the story help make games fun?

Depends on the game. In a game like Call of Duty 4 the story mode was just for when internet wasn't working. In an RPG the story is critical usually. The story can add to a game even with strong gameplay. MGS4 had great gameplay and a great story. So yeah it depends.

I don't think Final Fantasy X would have been nearly as epic if it weren't for the story, same for most of the other FF's I have played. But then you have things like Halo (imo) that is mainly gameplay and lacking in story. But if you have too much in one and not enough in the other, then it's catastrophic. The Ps2 Shining Force was all story, and it wasn't nearly as good as the GBA game I played of it.

i think the backstory of a game is more important. i personally am able to appreciate a game much more if i know it came from a rough home and has risen up to make a success of itself

It would be better if the story was good. Otherwise, all there would be to the game is to finish it without much point in it...

not necessarily........good games need good stories, but could be good without story too, like in driving/fighting games

Well, yeah. I rarely ever play the games that rely only the gameplay to make them exciting. So if it has bad storyline, I'll probably delete it soon after.Without a good plot, it kind of makes the whole thing boring...well that depends on how you play the game anyway.

This really depends on the game. If there are a lot of extra afterwords, not really. But if its a one play through game yes very much.

Hmm, I would say it depends on the game you're playing.Usually... I would LOVE to read the story, but mostly because I like how some games are creative enough to make me interested in reading it.Buuut.. Like I said.. It depends? :D> _ > you can just take a yes out of me :D

I would prefer gameplay over story any day, but it's not bad to have. More of like a bonus, really.
