I was just wondering what people thought of the United States. After 9/11, life in this country kinda went downhill as we are now facing economic recession and inflation. Is anyone proud of our government and its policy? Of George Bush? Of the rising oil prices? When you wake up in the morning, do you jump out of bed and think, "I'm proud to be an American"? Personally, I am. Not of those reasons, but because I am a citizen of my country. (No offense is meant towards other countries) I love it to death. What do you guys say? and why?

Ha, patriotism. What an idiotic concept.I am a nationalist; I am proud of the accomplishments of my country, I am proud of how little we have abused our power. But I consider my fellow Americans lacking in moderate voice, and, as the founders of globalization, we are the most likely to turn our democratic system against itself.

I'm proud of being an American. America is at its heart of hearts a noble nation. America has done wonders to help people in the past. My only hope for America is that it never ceases to be the land of the free and the brave and turns into Europe V.2 Socialism (in healthcare, the gov't running EVERYTHING, etc.) would ruin the ideals that America was founded on, the main one being a small government with the minimum amount of power possible (don't believe me? look up the articles of confederation, what America had before the constitution).

Except I haven't done anything stupid or moronic to be considered an idiot. while a lot of other people have plus IQ test show that I have an above average intelligence. so maybe I am an idiot to sum but even still there are a lot dumber people than me out there. so therefore I think I have the right to say there are a lot of idiots out there and not be considered an idiot when I say that

Except I haven't done anything stupid or moronic to be considered an idiot.Still being here on DGEMU for so long instantly gets you something, and this applies to me as well. while a lot of other people have plus IQ test show that I have an above average intelligence.Idiotic behavior is not relevant to IQ. The Romans, after all, simply defined an idiot as an average person.so maybe I am an idiot to sum but even still there are a lot dumber people than me out there.Anyone who does not use some form American English, British English, or Australian English (to list the major ones), while living under such countries and while learning such systems, docks idiot points.Yes, there are far more idiots out there. Yes, you are the higher echelon of the idiot scale. But you, like all 6,677,563,921 people on this planet, are still an idiot, using the Latin definition in some places and the modern one in others.Get used to it.so therefore I think I have the right to say there are a lot of idiots out there and not be considered an idiot when I say thatWhich is totally redundant.

I am really not pround to be an american right now because of George Bush. Ever since that man has gotten into office, our country has gone downhill. I really wish i was proud to be an american, but i just can't when there is a president who doesn't to fix the main problems. The thing that would make this country better is a responsive and active president who can make quick and educated decisions to pull our country back up to the good ol days.

the reason why i'm not proud to be an american is because of EVERYTHING we've done to EVERY country in the world we have betrayed so many countries that i wouldn't be surprised if we were to be wiped off the planet tomarrow. Canada "our brother" has been back stabbed by us too many times to count. we go into war with out even a thought and think " Oh we can just capture the country and everything will be fine" but then what happens we find our-selves backing out and pleading for mercy because AMERICA is STUPID our government is crap our presidents don't have a brain and out economy is uncontrolable. (and no i'm not racist in case this comes across like i am)

I don't get the concept of being proud of being of any nationality. You should be happy to be an American, not proud. Nationalism has never gotten anyone anywhere (well, unless you count holocausts and massive wars as "places" you want to go), so it seems strange for people to stick to it. If you want to be proud of something, do what you can to improve the world in general, not the lives of your "fellow countrymen" alone. Selfish thinking like that is what has been the catalyst for countless wars throughout history. "To forget is to allow history to repeat itself."As for the "idiot" argument earlier on:Omega Chill, your posts in this thread alone are valid instances of evidence. It's ignorant to say 300 000 000 people are dumber than you, when you obviously have no way of gauging the intelligence of the entire American populace. Americans are in general no dumber than other human beings, although it seems to me that Americans in general are more fundamentalist than for example certain European people's (I can only assume this is because the majority of our people's have decided religion is a belief, rather than knowledge, and don't really affect politics as much as it does in the States).

For the people who say they are NOT proud to live in American, think about how good we have it here compared to African and third world countries.Yeah, I will admit the US government can suck at times, but we have it a lot better off than a lot of others do.

I love being in america and I love the nation and having as much as we do but I don't like our politics and how we run our country and everyone else's for that matter, america is hypocritical, no one but america can have long-range ballistic missiles or nuclear weapons, even though we bomb the heck out of other countries anyway with the stupid war, I hate war, war is stupid, and it's getting us nowhere except killing people and being killed.

As soon as I see "I don't get the concept of..." I know I'm in for some far out philosophical debate. Just take the question on face value ok? Being proud to be an American doesn't mean hating other countries and not feeling a responsibility to the less fortunate of other countries. I am proud of America's goodness, I'd hope that it could still stay on top (not much of a chance of that not happening with many of the "enlightened" countries going back to a LennONistic view of Country-INVOLVEMENT IN(aka help)war-liberties-individual ownership of money=happiness). There are problems with the PEOPLE in the country, but the country itself is a beautiful and free thing.

No, I'm not. I don't like the false freedom. This is supposed to be a free country, yeah? Then why the heck do they want to kill my soon-to-be-pet-therapist dog because her mother or father was a pit bull?! :D Why do people of my religion seem to get what we want all the time?! :( Why are ferrets illegal in California because they "aren't domesticated" when they've been domesticated for 500 years longer than cats? XDWhy do we KILL? :(

I'm not really proud of my nationality, nor am I ashamed, because I think pride should be involved with things I've personally done.I've had no hand in directing or influencing any actions made by U.S.A., I just live here.

The rising cost of gas, which in turn increases the cost of living the rising number of illegals which not enough is being done about which in turn increases the rising number of citizens illegal and legal in America the rising unemployment rate which increases the rising number of homeless oh yeah there's so many reasons to be proud to be an American

American culture in my opinion is one of the worst I agree on the military aspect but if we really held so much economically influence than why are we in a depression?
