I'll could equate that to almost any activity. Lets take sports for example.Sports have made us lazy and stupid. Some people are so addicted to something, such as a sport game, to waste their entire life training and watching it.There are cases of every age group playing sports so much that they have a stoke and die. If you don't believe me, search it up on Google.Of course every activity is going to have its overly crazy people addicted to it. Just because some people can't control their habits, doesn't mean that the rest of us are stupid and lazy.It has made a lot of us lazy and stupid. Some people are so addicted to something, such as a computer game, to stay up all night playing it.There is even cases about kids playing computer so much, that they have a stroke and die. If you don't believe me, search it up on Google.
I like this quote. Computers are a tool that can be used in multiple ways. Some will learn and others will abuse it. Its kind of like a hammer. Most people use it to build; Some people use it to smash things.A computer is a tool, and like any other tool its effect is different based on how its used and whos useing it. Granted the computer is probably the most complex tool we have it is still possible to understand it, I think that it is bad for people who put no effort into understanding the computer to over use it. But those who acctually learn from the things they do and see (good and bad) are fine.By the way the probably horrbile grammer and punctuation is just the way ive always been if anything the computers helped me with it, I used to do just big blocks of text that were hardly readable because of bad spelling.
I would also agree with this. The main reason English is going down the tube is the 128 byte limit that is placed on text messages. This and time reasons with a limited keyboard have created the problem of bad English. Also the computer has made it easier for us to express laziness, but if we didn't have the computer we would just be lazy in another way. The best example I can think of is sleep. Over sleeping the computer has lots of potential to do good, even if it is use to combat laziness.I believe that computers have no effect whatsoever upon our spelling and grammar. Texting is the activity that has butchered the English language, but that is a topic that differs from computers in general. However, I do agree with the fact that computers have made it far easier for us to express our inherent laziness.
The computer takes out the work of doing all of that, but it doesn't make us lazy. We still have to have the initiative to type that email, or type to a person on another computer (or talk if you've got voip). Now instead of the library we have Google and Wikipedia. We can look up information in seconds that would normally take hours to find.Computers must have made us lazy.. In order to fight boredom, one could walk around finding something to do.. In order to send mail, one could go to the post office.. In order to talk to people, one could go to where they are.. In order to research things, one could go to the library.. Now all they could do is sit on front of the computer..
So instead of using a computer you could be reading, sleeping, or doing something constructive. How about you read up on the many many pages of Wikipedia? How is sleep more constructive than anything you can do on the computer? Its true that we have become more impatient due to the fact that we can find anything out via google in a couple of seconds, but isn't being impatient and wanting information now better than being impatient and only wanting info when it comes to us?We are not dependent on a computer, but more glad to use it to make our lives easier. If we are not on the computer and we sit around and do not then its your fault. I can socialize with friends, go watch a movie, play a sport, etc. I have things to do when I'm not on the computer and the computer hasn't taken those thoughts away from me. If they have to you then that is your sad problem. In general, computers have made us lazy/stupid, but rather made us smarter and hardworking (if we use them properly). Bad English is due to the cell's phones limitations, and is not linked to computer. In the end it is the application of this tool that makes us smart/stupid, but never lazy.yes, computers have made us lazy and moronic. it started wiht the tv though, but whatever. computers are jsut here to finish us off. the fact that any of us are even sitting here right now writing stuff in this forum shows that we are too hooked up. i mean, we could be reading or sleeping or doing somethign constructive. i'm guilty too of course, but i mean, we really need to get out more. plus, this type of stuff is what's made our generation so impatientI just realized how compurters make us stupid. anyway, computers make us stupid in that, we become so dependent on them and what they offer to us we no longer have the ability to function without them. when we're not on the computer we sit around and do nothing. we can't figure out what to do. we're like children. people without such a big connection to computers will just go play or make a game or create something, but we geeks will only ever wander around "bored" without our precious PCs

I think I've had the opposite effect. I used to be a horrible speller and now since I'm on a computer I'm forced to speak and spell correctly. I believe it's made me better.ive just finsihed an exam nd i realised i can't spell, i spent 5 minutes looking at the word should thinking i spelt it wrong, and my hand cramped up. Have computers made us really lazy nd stupid, your thoughts?

That's correct, but you can't link that to your next statement. It depends from person to person. An item, tool, or anything else is never bad by itself.
Games can be educational, and there is absolutely no guarantee you will become lazy from only using the computer for games. If you use computers just for games it will make you lazy.

Is the cat in the box alive or dead?
If you open the box, you will know the answer.
You will know the truth.
However, until you open the box, you can claim that the cat is alive, and you can also claim it is dead.

Yeah, I agree. It's completely up to how you use it. For example, computers can give you a wealth of information at your fingertips thanks to the internet, but if you're gonna spend all of your time playing MMORPGs and being a douchebag on Encyclopedia Dramatica, then maybe yes.Just like anything else it depends on how you use it. Computers can give you so much access to information and the things you can create on one are nearly endless, provided you have the proper skills to do so.If you're gonna sit around playing WoW all day or whatever then yeah, it's a waste of time.

And of course in many cases people(whether it's average users or professionals putting books or other texts online) on the internet/computers were behind that wealth of information. Before computers we had to get our information manually from copious amounts of books which really varied in availability. Computers (and definitely the internet) of course allowed us all that information everywhere easily so we didn't have to go reinventing the wheel every time and could just focus on improving on that.As for the other end of the spectrum, computers makin' ppl s2pid... Well, there were stupid people before computers right? Also about computers making people illiterate or chatspeakers, slang, jargon, and lingo have been around much longer before computers, and those are all ways to express something using less words, much like chatspeak and using less letters.Yeah, I agree. It's completely up to how you use it. For example, computers can give you a wealth of information at your fingertips thanks to the internet, but if you're gonna spend all of your time playing MMORPGs and being a douchebag on Encyclopedia Dramatica, then maybe yes.

I agree with your point about computers distracting people. I think the major reason why they are distracting is because of entertaining software and the advent of the internet.I don't think it's made people lazy, but it HAS made it more easy to become distracted.
