DS will live until the next great handheld comes out. Until then, motion control is tough to beat :gs:

it may go out of style for a large population, but for it to die would mean for almost everyone to not play them, and i doubt that will ever happen...if they come out with some better games

Seeing as most developers are only just starting to get to grips with the hardware potential of the DS I suspect it may be some time before it dies.Games like C.O.R.E. are going to start pushing the limits of the hardware. Most consoles only even begin to die after the potential has been reached (excluding Sega at this point:~) so I think there's a few years in the old dog still. They may revamp it as they did from DS Phat to Lite but nothing that you actually 'need' to change for.

there is a time and a place for everything.Just like how the GBA has its place and had its time the NDS will have its time but first we will never to use it till a voice says use no more. Even if a group becomes bored with it there will be some who a re just recognising its potential. And since we know that game developers have not not really put the system to the test we can expect that there will be games that will actually put persons back to the NDS so it will be a while before it dies. but remember I have been wrong before

It's staying. The innovative touch screen has definitely made it a very affordable and fun handheld console.

i'm telling you,the DS's popularity will implode, remember what happened to the NGC?wtf?you don't even know what that is anymore?see what i mean, it's obviously going to lose popularity when something better comes along

probably something with three screen will kill the ds

what about something with 4 screens?3 screens is really too much, they might make something really cool, like, a system that analizes the surroundings, and maybe you can use the trees and everything to your advantage in the game? 0.o

The DS is definitely my favourite portable game boy. I don't really like the PSP that much.

considering the DS lite came in fairly early into the DS generation of nintendo handhelds, i'd say we're in for a long haul. besides, the wii was just released around two years ago and i doubt nintendo would bring out a new handheld because of that.i give it around...3-5 years.

I don't if it's still on and correct me if I'm wrong, but there are rumours of Nintendo planning to redesign the DS once more.. If it's true then IMO I'd say the DS will be here for a couple of years :smile1:

by redesign, i'm hoping you mean a newer, smaller, sleeker version of the DS and not a completely different console altogether. although i'm sure it would sell fairly well, most people i know wouldn't see the need to buy one seeing we all have ds lites already.

Well, you gotta admit, though, that the DS is at the pinnacle of its stage. Normally, whether it'd be a console or a handheld, they end up coming really close to an end and downfall after it has experienced its nirvanna stage. However, because of the increasing popularity DS is experiencing, it's hard to tell what will become of its fate. Maybe the "pinnacle" stage will end and be at a low point but then back to the zenith zone, or maybe it will stay at its highest forever and not step down, ever.

NAH,,,, as anyone saw from the most "educational" and by educational i mean crap E3 that nintendo showed us it's that the female population is buying the ds. no i mean that there sales are just through the roof. as long as innovation and not just the same old crap is on ds it will thrive and that touch screen allows for so much innovation. most of us thought it was a gimmick at first the touch screen. even me but with games like the world ends with you Trauma center, and the ability to revamp old classics like mario kart and mario party it's gonna be around a while.

wait, for how many years has the DS been around anyway? that would suck if we've already reached the pinnacle since my DS is only two years old...

Honestly, I really don't think so. The Gameboy line went on forwhat seemed like foreevvverrrr; the better half of a decadeactually. (or was it even longer?) I'm thinking the DS isgoing to stay for a while longer, and the concept for Nintendo'snext hand-held won't be much of a difference. I smell a Lite2,maybe bigger screens, a sleeker design, but more than likelythe same system on the inside playing the same games.
