Well, it has to die someday, but meanwhile Nintendo doesn't come out with something more innovative, for sure it is going to last for longe ran longer. Besides, many software firms are proposing new applications which are good ideas when used for many different purposes, such as music and languages.

I don't think the ds will die out that easily. There aren't to many functions that can be associated with a handheld right now so It'll be a tough job for Nintendo to make something very innovative.Maybe a personalized handheld that reads cornea patterns so only the owner can open it? :P who knows? but still, the ds will be around until we are all in our 20's or early 30's at least. they're probably gonna make variations anyway.

It'll last long enough to become older than Chuck Norris and be able to do Round House Kicks. =/

But nothing is older than Chuck Norris =\ And if anything attempted a roundhouse kick without his permission it would get roundhouse kicked into a black hole. But anyway, DS will never die. Never. Because I'll keep it alive!! Mwahaha!Sorry. Got a bit carried away. Really though, who knows? It could last a couple of years, it could last a century. It all depends on the rate of development and the mentality of society.

I think the DS will never die, for it's too good to make a whole new handheld, but only have it improved...That's just my thought.

Maybe 7 years later NDS will die and a new handheld console called NTS (Nintendo Triple Screen) will be born! Haha!

ugh, just...no...the next handheld generation will be worldwide Internet connection, probably a completely new screen system(probably with dual touchscreen capability) that might have some way of connecting the two screen. Not physically, but like having two monitors that allows you to move your mouse over to the other screen. Basically anything a computer could do, this handheld will be able to do. Oh, and I bet they will improve on the voice recognition for many many games. And since the PSP already has advanced technology, I'm sure it will be no problem for Nintendo to add all those features as well.

Not for a very long time. Even the GBA is still alive and kicking today. Albeit not as fresh but still fun for many.

You may have seen adverts for a new range of DS Lites, in different colours. You may also remember that that the N64 also did this before it was cut, to try and get a bit more profit out of it. Could this be the end of the DS era?

nah theres a difference the old ds was ugly and mishapen but the new one:its like wow baby! nice and sleek almost like a laptop like a mac and all powerful looking

I think, basically never. This was the improvement on the GBA. You can't exactly add a third screen. The only way to go, really, would be a Developer's System Advance-- DSA. Better graphics, better sound, better controls, maybe two touch screens instead of just one, and of course backwards compatible with the current DSes.But the DS will definitely be around until the Wii dies, because they're kind of made for each other the way the GBA and GC were.

Nah, they simply release different colors to give people customization as to how they want their DS to appear. It's really a great business deal. If someone sees a new, better DS color they'd enjoy, they could basically get people to buy up to 4 DS. It's clever business.

Kinda like me. :) 5th DS lite! I don't think that the DS will end ANY time soon. It is an AMAZING handheld system and so many people LOVE IT!

I read on internet (A well-know videogame news website) a rumor about a new generation of DS that inclueds a camera... There is no official statement but it could be odd but nice at the same time... Imagine playing a Mario Kart DS through the Wi-Fi and see the face of the other players... or maybe have a messenger-alike chat room that allows to use the camera.... but i'm going to the non-gaming experience and uses. About the game itself... a new DS will have better graphics (Game Cube or maybe better) and use a different game port, like UMDs or new memory cards. but from all the thing you and i can think and wait... maybe better graphics and a double touch screen are the ones that we might want ('cause the gameplay is already good)...but not to the question... Actually there is already the technology to make these changes and upgrades... but first: With Nintendo nobody knows what and when will things happen. second: As long as the DS be on the top of the charts... Nintendo might feel there is no need to rush into a new handheld console.

Not anytime soon. Perhaps in another 5 years a new handheld will come out, even then DS will be quite popular (like GBA right now; it's not as popular as DS, but it still has a few good titles, and is still doing well). But perhaps, after another 4-5 years from then, DS might slowly become obsolete...

i dont think so, the ds features (mainly the double screens aswell as the touch screen) is quite the popular type among both young and older players... i dont think it will instead nintendo will probably improve it.
