Character class for the rest of my life! There is a lot of work defining and creating a class... much more than design a new weapon... more add value for the game.

Depends on how the game is designed. I mean, you can look at games like Final Fantasies VII and IX. Both of those were "Weapon" games in particular. Well, most final fantasies after 5 tended to be "Weapon" games. But those in particular stand out. One, VII, is classless. You have a wide variety of weapons, and it's not just a question of which weapon is the most powerful. The type of material slots (Growth Rates, Connecting Slots, number of slots) can havea big effect on your characters and how you battle. At least it's supposed to, and it could have if it wasn't a console RPG game where "Attack Spam" is usually the correct offensive choice in all except physically immune bosses. Whereas for IX you had a game where your collection of weapons determined which abilities you had access to, as well as how you learned abilities, if you did. Which also effected everything from offensive and defensive bonuses to which "Limit Breaks" you had available. Then compare a classic "Class" based game. Example... the original Final Fantasy. In it you had very few weapon types... (Staff/Rod, Knife, Sword, Hammer, Axe) But the classes allowed for a wide range of effective armor and weapon combinations (Like the infamous 4 white mage Hammer Fury team). My preference? I'd lean towards the Class side, more often. Though depending on the game and setting I often prefer the organic classless growth style. Rather than having switchable stats/bonuses/abilities, like games with Materia, Espers, GFs, Accessories, whatever, that you can switch every battle, you have a system like Arcanum (One of the great single player computer RPGs in my opinion), where while you can learn any skill, stat bonus, spell, etc, in whatever order and combination you want (Other than having to do things like learn ranks 1-4 in order before getting rank 5 in a skill), you're stuck with your choices, for good or for ill.

I really prefer having lots of classes. Weapons are nice, but you can really make a customized game with tons of classes.

Both are necesary, but for example in FE,even if you have the best sword ever, a class that has advantage against yours wins, althoug is good to have a good weapon giving suport, you need to choose your classes to survive

Character classes are far superior to weaponry. More skills, abilities, and other neat features outweighs a simple weapon upgrade.

i choose weapons too. well i personally like when i have the freedom to combine different items. the thing about classes is that the main difference is that they only swing the sword different way and that is all :(

Character classes is more important. It lessens down the choices of weapons to use thus making everything more simple.

I think having character classes to choose from gives you an advantage over just having weapons

well in some rpgs *fire emblem: sacred stone* where weapons are pre-selected. But there in lies the problem when it comes to trying to select the class upgrade for your unit. I personally prefer knowing the class first and then choosing a weapon. But also consider the golden rule of rpgs. That each person/ character has different tastes in weapons and attack/defend methods. So assuming a character will be good with a weapon is a deadly sin that often leads to the teams epic phailure.

Well I'd choose classes because if there are alot of classes wouldn't there have to be different weapons for the different classes. But no both would be the best. :P

Character classes are more important than weapons, however it's great having loads of weapons for each class

Weapons. Especially nice if you're in a mecha that is highly customizable. SRW OG: getting Shishio Blade for the Alteisen is simply awesome.

ever since playing the final fantasy 3 and 5 i hate having characters that can't multiclass. its just a thing i need, i dont care about having lots of weapons because i always just sell the weaker weapons and upgrade to the biggest baddest weapons every new town anyhow.
