Character classes definitely...You can get different skills and can try out new thingsWhat good are weapons when some only can be wielded by other classes? Try to get to that class? Then what? After that you aren't happy about the stat or you might want another weapon from another branch of classes than restart the game.... :)

Depends on how the game is made.If its a game that has weapons weaken after attacking (fire emblem), then my choice would be weapons. If it was a game that you had to choose a class, but stay on that class the WHOLE time, then it would be weapons. If it was a game like final fantasy, then it'll be classes.I'm not gonna vote, because to much choices come up at my head.

Well i'd say it depends whether the weapons would also affect the animations of the character. If a sword offers a really cool animation despite the class, then weapons are more important, but if animations are class specific then classes would be more important to me.

Gotta be character classes for me. In alot of games you need to be a certain class to wield some weapons. Also, Red Mages own everything, even Chuck Norris.

i would go with classes since then you could be in terms of fire emblem like a general or a hero or swordmaster.

definetely classes. with a large variety of abilities and attacks to use, a smart tactician can beat much stronger opponents. a player who rushes into battle with no strategy, een with the strongest weapons the game has to offer will constantly be finding his units surrounded by enemies with an advanage(like fire emblem- axe<lance<sword<axe) and picked off by archers and mages. a gigantic two handed blade which unleashes hellfire on your opponents when you strike them won't do you any good if you're being bombarded by missiles and magics and the bombarder is behind a thick wall or a stack of allies in a choke point where you can only get them one at a time.

Weapons, each has it's own style and feel. In real life not everyone is a "necromancer" or something like that. Getting into weapon development and other custom features help replace classes.
