Is brain training really a waste of time or do they really improve mental performance and elevate the IQ level? Has anyone noticed a change in mental performance in training your brain and what type of training what is? From personal experience from playing 'Brain Training' DS game i've noticed my mental performance has improved, but noticed after a period of months not playing the game, my performance when back down a lot but not as low as when i first started. The extra gains from these exercise could only be short term. What are your perspective on this?

I've used both 1 and 2. it does make you remember basic mulitplications and such, i haven't used them in a while. I don't get what hte piano lessons help with, but most of them are training your brain to remember math equations.. they use almost the same problems every time to train your mind to get them all done correctly and faster each time. The dash fiinish line portion of the game is good to train your quick math to add and subtract the place of your runner as people run by or you run by them.. so it does train your brain somewhat but probly not the way you may have been hoping. If your left handed it lets you set it so its easy to use as a lefty too.

As I've said in the other topic, I've bought and played 1 and 2. Although I didn't feel any more intelligent, I did feel my mental reflexes had quickened and I learned some new skills, like how to speed run the strobe test. How useful those skills are in real life is anyone's guess. I can see how they'd help some people though.

I agree with Joe, my mental reflexes seem to increse. Either way, it's a fun little game that test your brain from the useless things we do daily that lack educating things.

I tried it and it doesn't make me any smarter or stupider. I got tired of it after a doing it 3 or 4 times. I was always an avgrage person. I don't really get what it's suppost to do.

I have heard that doing excercises, such as Sudoku and crosswords are good to do if you are retired, for example, as you are not having to think so much. Doing this is supposed to help your brain and prevent alseimers (supposedly), so I think Brain Training can help in these areas. I think it can help your maths, but other than make you think faster logically, that's about it - in my opinion.

I think it helps but only a little bit. I mean, it helped me solve those math problems in a jiffy and got applauded in class (that's true!). :gunsmilie:

I think they are crap! You get better at the activities in the game but i think outside the game there is no difference or a neglegable difference in mental performance

i don't think it works because it says my brain is like 70 years older then it really is, and i got every question right!

It also counts how fast and efficient your brain is at solving problems. Of course, a faster brain would be much better than a slow one. (I don't mean that you're slow though)
