Swords have the "ancient cool" factor while guns have the "modern cool" one. Since I play medieval-themed games a lot, I stick to swords

personally i think guns are cool becuse it feels like youre in an action movie i like guns

Sure it's probably easier and quicker to kill a guy with a gun.But hey, the topic asks which kicks ass harder.All you can do with a gun is pull a trigger. Yes it would hurt and most probably kill, but aiming and pulling a trigger is all you can do. Think of all the things you can do with a sword:You can stab 'em right through until it comes all the way out the other end.You can slice their heads off.You can amputate them.You can use all your ninja tactics to chop them up in style.And if you're feeling evil 
, you can carve in your mark after you kill 'em off. Like on their back or something.See! There are so many exciting ways to kick butt with a sword than with a gun. And the great thing is, it will always be different with a sword.

I like swords cause their ssssoooo shiny. That's why I think swords are better. However I also agree with many people here never, EVER bring a sword to a gun fight.

For effectiveness, guns win. For sheer awesomeness, someone who can use a sword wins. I mean, anyone can point and shoot a gun, but swordplay has style and in my book, more awesome potential.

Anyone can shoot a gun but it takes true finesse to wield a sword properly. Because of that swords are much better.

guns look cooler and are easier to kill with but swords dont have to be reloaded

well gun are for people like arnold, while swords are more for being stealthy and stuff, really depends on the person.

I've always liked swords over guns, not to say that I hate guns, but the sword is just cool.

Guns all the way. Except in Left 4 dead 2 then swords kill all.

Well I guess the swords could 'kick' harder ass as guns may break.But most definitely Guns win.Why?Because they can shoot energy and energy conveying projectiles instead of a mass of matter.Swords are cool but they'll get killed by guns by the time they get close,Unless you are a stealthy assassin

I think guns are more badass with all the gunfu movies out there. Swords are nice but I would prefer long distance.

well, swords are more awesome than guns, but guns are easier to use (i think). It would be cool if there was a weapon which was a combination of a sword and a gun.

Definitely, don't forget animeIn reality, guns will kick a sword user's ass hands down. Now if the setting is in a game like world where you have things like HP and super owning skills than that's a different story.
Really, guns have nothing on The Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu
Try typing the word "fa!l" on dgemu when posting, it appears as succeed. Spell it properly though, F-A-I-L without the dashes, doh!

depends on the gun vs. the sword. When choosing a gun: My favorite is a shotgun or one hand uzi. When choosing a sword: Katana.
