I was discussing a what if question with my friend. Here's how it goes.A woman and her friend are stopping at a restaurant. She and her friend enter the restaurant and sit at a table. A waiter comes by and sets down a kettle of tea. The woman and her friend talk for a while, and then the woman gets a phone call saying that she is expected at her office. She and her friend leave, but are stopped by a waiter. The waiter said they didn't pay the bill yet, and is threatening to call the manager. The woman protests that she never ate nor drank anything, but the waiter says that she still has to pay for the kettle of tea.Should the woman pay or not?????A few days before this I was watching a TV show and saw surprisingly, there was an event that was strangely similar to this question... Weird, huh?

I think she should pay... because she was IN the restaurant, and I don't know about anyone else, but technically, I do NOT like going back out of the restaurant when I already went in. It makes me feel EMBARRESSED. But I guess that woman doesn't feel embarassed. But I would, so I would pay.

It depends. (Also I don't think this is in the right section)Was she in a hurry? Was she shy? (shy as in she didn't want to cause a scene and get unnecessary attention)Does she have money on her?Anyways just judging by what you said, she shouldn't have to pay. She didn't order the kettle. The waiter just brought it. That would make it complimentary like bread at a fancy restaurant or napkins at McDonalds.

I would think that she would not have to pay. She didn't order anything, she just went into the restaurant and chatted. It's like going into Mcdonalds and using the bathroom with them charging you for using the bathroom :sniper:

No she needn't to pay.She didn't order anything, so there is nothing to pay for.It doesn't depend if she was in a hurry or if she is shy or anything. She doesn't have to pay anything, she didn't order anything. The only one that should get problems should be the waiter, since he made the mistake

Why is this even in question? Neither person was ever asked by any part of the restaurant's staff for their order, so there's really no basis to charge them....Besides which, have you ever tried drinking tea straight from a kettle? That sh*t is hot.

She SHOULD NOT have to pay. As someone already said, she didn't order the tea, the waiter just brought it over, like breadsticks at a fancy restaurant, or like napkins in the bag you get at the drive-thru.

She didn't order it :gs:DUR!That's what the whole controversy is about. If she DID order it, then she would have to pay or end up cleaning dishes.

I think she should. If she never went into the restaurant then the kettle never would've been prepared.

Restaurants generally reuse anything that isn't "contaminated" anyway, so they could easily just refrigerate the kettle of tea and warm it up later for any other customer who orders it. It's ridiculous to make her pay for something she didn't even touch, when they could (and probably will) just use anyway.
