if it was me. and I didn't ask for anything nor did I eat or drink anything. Then there is no way in hell I would pay!It was like getting billed for just sitting at the table. Though, knowing the lack of self confidence I have, I'd probably give in a pay anyway just to get it over with. Especially, it i am suppose to be somewhere. I don't think I have the time. I just take out money hand it to the waiter and just give it and leave. "Keep the rest as a tip"It be like a dollar tip. Then I'd tell everyone I know never to go to that dump ever again. What a rip off.If I did ask for the tea, then I suppose I gulp it down and the pay for it. Honestly, when you go to the restaurant. You're paying for the food and drink you eat. Why should I pay for something I didn't drink?

I do not think the woman should pay because she never asked for a kettle of tea, and the waiter just brought it so it's unfair.

I think she should pay... If it was a glass of mineral water, then she doesn't have to pay... But if it was an expensive Japanese tea or something.. Then I guess she'll have to because it waste the supply the restaurant have and if they reserve it, I don't think anyone would want to drink some stranger's saliva...

No, the tea was placed on the table by the waiter after they were seated, it was not ordered nor did they drink anything. The only thing 'consumed' was the waiter's time. It's like saying you have to tip the waiter at a restaurant because they said Hi to you. If placing the kettle of tea at the table is part of their procedure such as saying Hi, then again the answer is still no. Putting the situation in another perspective, let's say the woman just sat down and before ordering anything the phone call was from the hospital and her loved one was dying. Would you charge them for sitting down?Someone might argue with me what if they had a reservation? I can argue that's why lots of fancy restaurants and for those who have ever been to disney world for example have what's known as a will call list, these things happen.

If she didn't order it, and the waiter took it upon himself to bring the kettle (whether that was done by restaurant policy or not), then it is complimentary.

I'd have to say she does. She pretty much get's a bunch of people to do work, and by not paying, it's not fair to them, because they did all that work for nothing. So yes, she should pay if only to keep somebody's job going.

No, she shouldn't. She didn't order anything. I personally would because I'd be embarrassed, but looking at it from this perspective I think not.

While considering this I find the problem being the local customs of where this happened. Even one suburb can have different accepted social rules, not to mention different countries. But, I should make a choice and not get too deep, so here it is........ Because she didn't ask for the tea, she hasn't ordered anything from the menu she shouldn't pay.
