I had to pay for a drink once even though i never ordered anything, sat at the table and got an emergency call and had to leave, got told i would pay for at least one drink because i had sat at the table....i paid (for the cheapest drink on the menu) rather than protesting because i had to leave quickly, ive never been back though....

They should not be required to pay. However, leaving a tip for the waiter would be polite, as they took space that could have been used by paying customers. But because they neither ordered the tea, nor consumed any, they shouldn't have to pay.

I would say no, she shouldn't have to pay because she didn't order the kettle of tea. The waiter set it down on their table without it being requested. Therefore, she shouldn't have to pay.

NO the woman should not since she did not eat or drink anything. If she she was to pay what whould the bill have on it, a kettle of tea that was not used, what would they do whit it reheat it and give it to someone els.

I don't know how business works in that restaurant.
If they have a policy that if you take a seat, you'll pay for a kettle of tea whether you drink it or not. Then you can't do anything but to pay. But if they don't have any, then it could be a scam, the restaurant and its management can be reported.

Give him a dollar for the tea and be on your way, if he makes a giant fuss tell the manager not to give tea before the customer orders.

I was discussing a what if question with my friend. Here's how it goes.A woman and her friend are stopping at a restaurant. She and her friend enter the restaurant and sit at a table. A waiter comes by and sets down a kettle of tea. The woman and her friend talk for a while, and then the woman gets a phone call saying that she is expected at her office. She and her friend leave, but are stopped by a waiter. The waiter said they didn't pay the bill yet, and is threatening to call the manager. The woman protests that she never ate nor drank anything, but the waiter says that she still has to pay for the kettle of tea.Should the woman pay or not?????A few days before this I was watching a TV show and saw surprisingly, there was an event that was strangely similar to this question... Weird, huh?

I would say no, but only in the mention, or should I say lack of mention of them actually ordering the kettle of tea. There is nothing about them ordering the kettle of tea, only that of the waiter setting it down on their table. If the above story mentioned that they placed an order for the kettle of tea it would be a different story. However, in this case, no; she shouldn't pay, nor should her friend. This would be considered a facepalm moment for the waiter considering he just randomly brought a table tea with out them requesting it. lol

Further more, if this were me I would use the above logic, and then I would tell him to bring the manager because I would like a few words with him/her do the the impudence of his services. You would see one waiter back off pretty quickly.

I think she should not she did not order anything. But if her friend ordered the tea before she got there or something, they would still have to pay even though they did not touch the tea.

It was never stated that they drank or poured anything from the kettle of tea. I supposed that was ground enough to not pay.

A waiter bringing tea without a request from the customer is the same as bringing water to the customer, it isnt something that should be payed for.

Thats a hard question.

on one hand, thats a waste of tea and time on the restaurant's part.

but on the other hand, its complimentary tea.

or did she specifically ask for the tea? then yes she should pay.
