I've been looking back at dreamcast and while it seems to me its better then any other system of its time, it was the first console with a massive multi player game (yes it had online play) alot of good games, the graphics were a little better then n64 and yet it's like it never existed i don't remember any advertising of it at all and i only knew 1 person that had it at the time it's like it just never existed its like something blocked it, and there isn't even a emulator for it on this site, so yeah any responses

There are plenty of emulators of it outside of this side. Google is yer friend. It never really got the exposure it deserved. It was much better than any system at the time but people didn't know about much other than Nintendo. Sega was a dying system anyway. They had so many failed systems.

Sega is just bad at marketing consoles. They make great games and have an understanding of the technology...but for some reason their marketing abilities are just pathetic. The Dreamcast was, and still is my favorite console of all time. One of the most underrated by far.

It felt like that because just previously said before sega didn't market well. It also was it was released a few months before the ps2, and when the ps2 did come out it overshadowed the dreamcast. I remember that system, it was a good system now no one remembers it.

My guess would be Marketing and maybe timing. People always assumed PS2 was better than DC because it was released afterwards but not true. DC supported 480P way before any console did. I think if they could have secured a big company back up like Square(RPG series specifically) they would still be alive. But oh well I still play my dreamcast it has fun games.

The dreamcast was an example of how bad marketing can really ruin a product when your competition is great at it. The PS2 was already very hyped up by the time dreamcast came out although it did come out later most people saved their money for the PS2 because they were very impressed and lured in by the ads the dreamcast however did not get that same marketing and that caused many people to ignore it and just wait for the PS2es release it however was a phenomenal system.

Another Example of bad marketing is "EarthBound". The games Slogan was "This Game Stinks". Seriously, who says that? EarthBound is an Awesome Game! They must have Hired the same crackheads to promote the Dreamcast.

Actually, "this game stinks" probably reflects Itoi's attitude about Earthbound in a certain quirky light. But for the person who glances at, it's probably pretty misleading. That being said, silly and "backwards" advertising can be effective. But the dreamcast marketing was just lethargic and lazy.

It's overshadowed by more successful ones like the N64.

Not when you're skimming through a game magazine. Then that kind of line would make you pass it by.

the dreamcast had amazing potential but i think the reason it simply died is because of the flaws that it had. If sega would have taken the time to fix some of the bugs, I think we would have a next gen sega system along with the ps3, wii, and xbox360

Some people say it was really the timing. When it came out people played the PSX and other stuff was coming out. The real reason was sony made a deal with the people that made sports games and I think some kinda madden game didn't come out for the dreamcast so it's sales went down but I still think the dreamcast had tons of potential.

The flaw back then was the Slow loading times, in exchange for 3X as much RAM as the N64.

Makes me wonder, if they marketed it better, and was released earlier, would it convince enough people to not buy a PS2? Would there be a Sega Next Gen system? Would have been great if Sega's hardware and Nintendo's Marketing paired up, that would have been some nice system. Oh well, time to play Animal Crossing on my Emulator.

I completely agree. PS and Dreamcast had the best games of all times. PS2 games dont get even close to the creative and fun of PS and Dreamcast's games.
