I never knew there were that many sega consoles all I knew were the genesis, master system, dreamcast. It seems like it never existed because the advetisments werent that good and even though they are well know about the sonic games they didnt know that sega made consoles unless you're a hardcore sonic player or sega fanboy that stuck with them since they started making consoles

Cause it never did exist :PI think it must have been bad luck since the console was pretty good compared to the oters at that time.

It just didn't have enough good games, and it was marketed towards the wrong audience.I can only think of a few desent games for the DC, Grandia 2, Shenmue and.....well, that's it actually. But to be fair I only played it a handful of times, wasn't too impressed though.

Because it had like no copy protection and most of the games sucked. The same could be said these days about the wii because of its shovelware, but beyond sonic adventure 1 and 2, Jet set radio and Street fighter 3, it was pretty meh.

the marketing for this system was pretty good, i still remember the phrase "it's thinking" from the commercials and the red swirl logo. It was just that it came out between generations and everyone was waiting for the PS2 anywayz. That with Microsoft coming into the game and the "Dolphin" on the horizon... it was just too early for Sega to release a next gen system. It was a remarkable console though. The best they've done. Just bad timing.

I have to agree with bloodyartist above, if it had waited to come out when the ps2 and the xbox came out it might have done better. Personally I loved playing Marve vs Capcom 2 on it as well as the power gem fighting games. Nice lil compact unit, although it would get pretty loud when it would read and load the discs

I am sorry, but if you ever played to Shenmue 1 or 2, you would not say that the Dream is not powerful enough. These games have made many people buy the Dream (new or second hand)°

Most of the games on the Dreamcast weren't very interesting or memorable. Plus, I don't know about other people's Dreams, but the one my friend had lagged alot and froze all the time, even though it was barely a week old.

Back in the 90's sega was marketing to a japenese culture that was expanding its technology, so by putting all these extra fancy gizmos on their products made them more expensive. Besides, their biggest markets after the genises were more so South America and Europe. Conflicts in management also led to their downfall. However the dreamcast is also my favorite system, I have about 30 something games. The laser gun for dreamcast was awesome! There is nothing like playing house of the dead 2 at your house if you dont have alot of arcades in your town.

I think it was because Sony was dominating the market of games and Sega was simply not prepared to battle with Nintendo and Sony at the same time. Curiously Dreamcast was Sega's last console, and it was on that time that they decided to give up the console market. It was a good console though, it had better hardware than PSOne and N64, the controller aparently was very confortable (although I didn't play it much) and had some good games.

Ok, Dreamcast had a few flaws. Mainly the controller ports that most of the time were badly soldered, and the cable ports, also badly soldered. Between DC and PS2 I couldn't really tell a difference in load times. Then again, the PS2 I have is somewhat wonky in that it's selective about the PS1 games it plays, including not playing FFVII. I think its board was dropped during manufacturing...

It was due to the hype around the PS2's arrival.

I beleive they let it out to soon, a few months after the PS2 and XBOX war began. When they came out the Dreamcast was blacklisted and everyone wanted PS2 and XBOX. I remember wanting one, just as a managed to talk my dad into getting me one there was no point and he refused to get me an XBOX insted.. Till years after lol :milo2:

The Dreamcast will always have a special place in my heart because of a little gem called Toy Commander. You could basically take control of little toy jeeps and planes and helicopters among other stuff and have dogfights in gigantic levels. You could seriously use entire houses with multiple floors and rooms, fully decorated with tables and other stuff, driving between dishes and mugs and books and running along ceilings and floors. The vehicles would use weapons like pencil missiles too. I still do not understand how this game never got bought out and turned into a big franchise. It's seriously one of the best games ever made.

It really was a great console. With games like Phantasy Star Online, Soul Calibur, Power Stone, even Skies of Arcadia As well as Time Stalkers and Evolution. But, as was said before, poor marketing as well as being overshadowed by the PS2 and the failure of their previous console was it's downfall. Although, I haven't played much of it's library, my Dreamcast remains the best that I've ever owned

WOW. Talk about a waste. I knew there were a few fails along the way but this takes the cake. Dreamcast R.I.PBut yeah Dreamcast had potential and great games. it hurts to know how deep it has fallen into the dark abyss

horrible marketing strategy? that's what I've always thought...*edit: that's why it failed to catch on...it's completely overshadowed by consoles that made a huge impact on the gaming world
