A debate i've been having with a few of my friends who have played and completed both FE games released in the US. Which class do more individuals prefer? The critical crazy swordmasters?orThe one hit crit kill assassins?Neither are very powerful, but each has its ups and downs.

Not sure what you're talking about but I always go for the swordmaster over an assassin. :-P

Assassins all the way! Matthew and Colm are amazing! I've always been lucky with my Thieves and Assassins in the FE universe, Everychance they get... It's a crit, And that's not with a Killing Edge, that's the normal for an Iron Sword! Not to mention, it seems to be just about every time they fight an armored unit, or something they deal 0 damage to, They use Silencer, the instant KO. Which, is wonderful. Not to mention... I've seen that Assassins are harder to hit compared to Swordmasters... Could just be me though. The crit doesn't really matter much either though. My friend always turned Joshua in a Swordmaster... but he never crit. He had like 50 percent chance, and he hardly ever crit. It was a rare. :foldarms:

Gotta go with the Assassin. Badass looking and they're fairly effective. Swordmasters are usually better on average but they're also extremely boring.

its a pretty hard question. The assasins can 1 hit nergal very easily with a killing edge (like 40 something critical) but swordmasters can always have high critical even without killing edge so they 1 hit other things without using killing edge. They can also have pretty high str if the rng is good to you so my answer would be swordmasters. Just because assasins are weaker and don't always 1 hit stuff.

I like swordmasters, and Assassins, but I do believe that the hero class rules all over the two, because of the raw power it has.

I personally have never ever had an assassin successfully assasinate any boss, but have seen my swordmaster 2 hit ko powerful bosses with consecutive criticals. I'd go with swordsmaster.

when i play the games i perfur to have one of both atlest that way if i neeed ether one i got it to use and i like them both instant kill is handy but you have to have the assassins with one of the weapons that boost critical hit rate and for the swordmasters they just have a high critical hit rate with out one of those weapons but they both have great speed and evatoin ether way so i like them both and a team is leathel when used right i have been playing the games for about 4-5 years now and i keep on finding new combinatoins to use

Alright, let's compare them...If talking about Sacred Stones, I say swordmasters. They are stronger than the assassin, simple logic. The formulae for silencer to active is half your crit%. A swordmaster with a silver sword or killing edge will kill anything with a crit, but has a +15% chance to crit. So, say they both have 40% base crit (weapon + skill stat) the swordmaster has 55% crit while the assassin still stay at 40%. (Only 20% chance to activate silencer)And lol at the argument "assassins gain more speed" and whatnot. In Sacred Stones, and in most of the other fire emblem games as well, stats growth aren't influenced by the class. Take Joshua for example. He will have the same speed in both assassin and swordmaster, same goes for his other stats. The only thing that changes this is if he's been screwed by the RNG. But anyway, on averages he'll be about the same on any of these 2 classes, with a 15% crit bonus as swordmaster. For FE7, I'd have to still say swordmaster. I don't like Guy, but Karel is oh so fine by me. Yes, he's about as strong as Jaffar, but with 15% more crit, and I like the character better too.

They're both tied for first place for me. It depends on where to use them. I prefer swordmasters to mop up weaker enemies while leaving assassins to deal with tougher, boss-like characters.

SO yeah i never really played whatever game you guys are talking about... i'm thinking that it's final fantasy, but i really cant surmise.Okay so swordmasters are all defense and samaraia esque, and instead of the obvious term, ninja, the class is called assassin. The original Assassissins were middleeasterners known as hashishians.they worked much like assassins except they always smoke insane amounts of hash.and then they try and kell as many enemies as posible. It's all about the ninja's yall.IRL, dexterity, nimbleness, dodging.Ninja == Win

I will support swordmaster with his high crit rate with high hit rate. assassin probably have 1 hit kill but if the hit rate is low, there is no point of having 1 hit kill.

if you're saying neither are very powerful, you've never used jaffar, who could wipe out a whole room by himself, or rutger, who with the right supports, would critical 100% of the time and had upwards of 20 str, with meant instant kills. i could do a whole level with just him, and not even heal him.

I usually do swordmasters, just because they can take a hit and it doesn't have to run away every time it gets hit.

I slightly prefer Assassins because of Silent Kill which gets a kill much faster, especially when combined with a critical. It also looks pretty damn cool too

You have to go with swordmaster. They have the same speed and more power. The silencer is tight, but not tight enough
