i do that quite often.. the only time i dont is if there is a good RPG game taht i want to keep with the story line

The benifit to playing your own music is to block out the games. If you use a computer or external device to play music you have to mute your XBox. Unless you like crossfading music. Personally I play it on game where you don't need to really pay attention to talking or the music. So it usually comes off when I'm playing online games such as Halo or Left 4 Dead. Also conversation heavy games like Mass Effect.
