Do I really have to say more? If you don't recognize his name, I feel sad for you. He's the mind behind the movies Princess Mononoke, Laputa: Castle In the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and a few more. He's a genius, plain and simple. I haven't found a writer/director that can rival Miyazaki.

I agree! I also like the movie made by Hayao Miyazaki's son Goro Miyazaki.

I saw Princess Mononoke & Chihiro no kamikakushi (Spirited Away) and I must say they are some of the greatest creative forms of anime I've seen. It really is out of this world, with a completely alternate universe, per se. He forking rocks!

Hayao Miyazaki is amazingly gifted. all his works are imaginative, original and just practically perfect. and you cant go past the music used in his films too! and the cuteness of the characters? unsurpassable.

I suggest you see his other movies, particularly Howl's Moving Castle and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, both of which are AWESOME.

There are a few that can easily compete with him, but I don't remember their names currently... He is an amazing writer and director though.

I've heard a lot about Hayao Miyazaki, and Princess Mononoke is really nice. I still have to watch some of his works, and it seems that his other creations are great. =)

Mononoke was one of his best, but I still absolutely love Nausicaa and Howl's over his other works.

Oh my god, Spirited is one of my favorite's. Not to mention its one of the few English dubs that got it right! But Miyazaki-san's personal philosophy about dubs makes it so! So he is the GREATEST!

There's something magical in his works that is very hard to find anywhere else. He's really a great director.

His movies are completely and utterly MINDBLOWING!!! Showed 10 minutes of Mononoke for an assignment at school, everyone loved it.I think part of this is also attributed to are the scores that are created by Joe Hisaishi (I am so into him right now. And he's also fifty years old plus)

Despite loathing the blind following of anything eastern in today's youth, especially that of Anime and Manga, he has produced some gems. Namely Laputa.

He's my hero. :( Absolutely amazing. He puts so much thought and little details into things that seem so insignificant but are hugely impacting. Amazing artist.Let's not forget My Neighbor Totoro! :)Soot sprites are my favorite.

One of the great things about Miyazaki's films is that their English dubs seem to always be extraordinary. I haven't seen one of them yet that wasn't a joy to listen to compared to the typical American dubbing job.

Has anyone seen his film Whisper of the Heart (or the spin-off, The Cat Returns)? The latter is mostly comedic, but Whisper of the Heart has to be one of my favorites by Studio Ghibli. It's an inspiration to me both as a writer and as a human being.

ooooo!!!!! i'm just itching to see miyazaki-sama's latest! Gake no Ue no Ponyo [aka Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea]... i read it bombed in it's latter days in japanese theatres, but it was all that damned pokemon movie's fault! aside from that, yes, miyazaki is a legend and an inspiration! first movie of his i ever saw was Majo no Takkyūbin [aka Kiki's Delivery Service], but my favorite, by far, has to be Neko no Ongaeshi [aka The Cat Returns]. my other top two would be Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi [aka Spirited Away, btw "Kamikakushi" translates to "Spirited Away"] and Hotaru no Haka [aka Grave of the Fireflies]. man that movie was sad...

what is his latest creation?

ponyo on the cliff by the sea, in the usa it's set to come out in late 09

i really liked spirited away and totoro. i was a little disappointed with ponyo, but i think that's becasue it was aimed at a very young audience. it was still good though.

He's probably the best director for an animation I've seen. I loved Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. :P :(
