Miyazaki is one of my favorite directors. My favorites of his films are Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Howl's Moving Castle.

My favorite work by Hayao Miyazaki is Princess Mononoke. When I was younger, I first liked it because of the interesting characters, adventure, and amazing story. There was a cursed prince (who was not really a prince), a fierce girl capable of defending her home, a dumpy yet agile spy, and so on. I was also captured by the strange relationship between the characters, especially the romance. As a kid, I was usually attracted by fighting and excitement, but the odd and even hostile edge between the two in love was sharp enough to draw me in.Now days, I still treasure Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke for it's wonderful depth and compelling story. However, I love how Miyazaki incorporates nature and human fallacy into his work, especially Princess Mononoke. Not all the bad guys are necessarily evil: simply aligned against what is perceived as good.Of course, with Princess Mononoke (and other works by Miyazaki), nature will always be good.

He's a brilliant director and I like the fact that he's still into traditional hand drawn art and despite the latter, the animations of his movies are flowing and the blending of colors were an eye candy. He's also a feminist, if you notice most if not all of his works have strong female leads or antagonists all firm to their character's principles and resolve. Most of his works also do have an environmental message.I enjoyed watching Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, and Nausicaa

Who doesn't know Miyazaki-san?? Actually I love all of his works. Everything he does is a masterpiece. It's like you feel you are in a magical world created only for you and the characters of the story, where no matter how you look and no matter what is happening in the world around you… love, magic, and romance can exist and still be shared between two very different individuals.

Hayao Miyazaki is an absolutely amazing person. I think the way he makes the movies is on an entirely different level than most of what we get in the media. The fact that he can make what is essentially a kid's movie from things that happen in real life, and not have a "good" and a "bad" side is really wonderful story telling. The way that his movies can draw in people of all ages is a marvelous gift.I think it's really fun to go and see what he based his movies on; although some of them are slightly more disturbing, but very interesting.Totoro is based on a murder, Princess Mononoke, an old legend, Ponyo, a retelling of the little mermaid... very cool.

Having just watched one of his movies with my daughter this evening for maybe the 100th time (My Neighbour Totoro) i feel compelled to post a comment about how awesome Hayao Miyazaki is. The animation and the life he breathes into his characters is so special. Even the seemingly insignificant old dog for example in Kiki's Delivery Service (who helps her black cat Jiji escape from a young boys clutches) has a real presence. Working in a Japanese school i can also see the love children hold for his works. Just hearing the first chords of the theme tunes will get them bellowing out "tonari no totoro totoro" or "ponyo ponyo ponyo sakana no ko", so nice to hear and a testiment to the enduring quality of his work. May there be many more in the pipeline!!

The man who produced rare gems of Anime. Yes. He deserves a thread to his name.I especially like his Spirited Away. It started my following of his works and delving into the man's history was quite the nut to root out from all the other junk that amassed from the genius of his other works. I find that he has inspirations within his movies like the theme of short-haired girls for the heroins and the love conquers all. I say that Miyazaki has Diney fever or something without the a stapled corny-ness that Disney brings. (I love Diney by the way... I just find that Miyazaki is a respite from the hyper-paced world.)

Man. I feel kinda bad for saying this, but I consider him to be one of the most over-rated people of all time. XD I mean, I think that of Shakespeare too, so y'know, perhaps that's a good thing and I just have bad taste.Personally, I feel it's because I don't have the nostalgia of having watched his films when I was smaller (Princess Mononoke excluded); but I never sympathise with the characters, or feel moved by them, and I never did when I was small either. It's probably also got something to do with the fact that I'm cynical, and so anything mildly childish I pass off as uninteresting and dull. FYI: My "inner child" turned into a hairy man-beast years ago, so I've lost touch with the more innocent, child-friendly things.Upon many a recommendation, I watched My neighbor Totoro - apparently his most popular work. I was disappointed. Being a person who watches a lot of action films, I kept expecting something more to happen with the plot. I can't really appreciate the 'journey' if that journey doesn't have at least one person exploding in a dazzling show of blood and guts and a minimum of 2 plot twists (or one really good plot twist - I'm lenient on that). When - and this is a spoiler by the way - the little annoying girl who kept crying (I forget her name) got lost, I expected the plot to have some major twist that kicked off an even bigger adventure! But it didn't. All that happened was that Totoro reunited the sisters (within the space of approximately 5 minutes) and the film ended quite abruptly. I was left feeling Miyazaki couldn't think of a good ending; or had intended to but ran out of budget. The music was brilliant though. I think that Joe Hisaishi - composer for the Studio Ghibli films - brings more to the films in terms of making it an experience than Miyazaki himself. His compositions are excellent! Whereas Miyazaki's stories are a little... meh.To be fair, I could see why some people would like his films, there's a simplistic innocence and sweetness about them. Additionally, I've noticed that people who like his films also tend to like babies and cute things. Well, I don't mind cute things (I love flying squirrels and guinea pigs), but I hate babies. And toddlers. And children in general. I guess those films just aren't aimed at people like me.

I LOVED Spirited Away. I think Hayao Miyazaki's movies just... I wouldn't say they're relatable to us. Or could I? I suppose in a sense we can relate to characters emotionally, if not physically, and I think that's what really draws us to his movies.

Spirited Away and How's Moving Castle were two of my favorite movies. I've seen most of the movies he's made, like My Neighbor Totoro and The Cat Returns. Oh, yes, and Ponyo. Even though it was voiced by an odd cast, I still enjoyed it.

Despite loathing the blind following of anything eastern in today's youth, especially that of Anime and Manga, he has produced some gems. Namely Laputa.

He made many animation.I looked them from childhood.GPs were deducted for this post, please read the rules! - tedsb16

So pleased that his movies have now got the recognition they deserve in the west. I was always puzzled by how movies which were cultural events in Japan were mainly picked up by for art house types in the early days. Not a Miyazaki film, but check out Grave of the Fireflies, very moving account of two children in the last days of WW2 in Japan.

I definitely love Studio Ghibli and all of Miyazaki's works a lot. I recently got my hands on all of the Studio Ghibli movies, and plan to spend a few days gorging myself on all of them.

I have copies of Nausicaa Valley of the wind, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo on the cliff by the Sea, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Tales of Earthsea, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Kiki's Delivery Service. Haven't yet seen My Neighbour Tortoro, or The Cat Returns.Unfortunately my copy of Ponyo is in japanese and hasn't even got subtitles so I have no idea what is going on :hyou:all great movies, and the animation is amazing. Studio Ghibli is awesome, can't wait for some new ones by his son.

Hayao Miyazaki produces some of the best anime movies that i've seen in a long while, namely 'My Neighbour Totoro' and 'Spirited Away'. I bought a DVD of these in my local HMV (entertainment retail place) store and watched it the night i got back home; i was in awe of how well the characters were depicted in the storylines, the storyline itself and the scenes. Since then i've bought almost all of his movies.
