^Well, I wouldn't get it because I already have a camera & MP3 player.I guess it's convenient if you want it in a slim package, but I really don't see the need for anything like that :DMaybe if Nintendo boosted the MP count on the cameras, I would splurge for it.

I have a blue one and truly its not that bad, 5 brightness setting new games that use the camera arent that great, but using this with all of its capabilities is nice, plus the fact that its getting a flashplayer thats higher than 7.5 so you can finally watch videos. The screens are slightly larger and thats nice, the only way to listen to music is with SD cards and using them in the AAC format. That and the power button is inside. It's worth it.

Just to correct few things here

I just love the Nintendo DSi. The Wi-fi range is increased, there's a 0.3 mega pixel camera, a voice recorder, a store, a mp3 player and even an sd slot.

DSi does not have a mp3 player. Format it supports is AAC, the MP3s must be converted to ACC.

Im pretty shure that the DSi has better grafix than the other DSes, and extended wifi range.

The graphics on DSi are excatly like on DS. DS has bigger and slightly brighter screen. And DSi would have more horsepower to display better graphics than ordinary DS but such game (only for DSi) has not been made yet. All the DS games that are run on DSi are using DS mode, meaning not using the extra uumph DSi got

i get the feeling they are trying to make the DSi more than a console, like an accessory you dont go out the house without like your phone or mp3 player....I swear ill freak if they decide to do a deal with a phone company and make a DS phone

I would get it if the camera have a better pixel, even my phone is 2mp, how can the DSi be only 0.3mp! Then what is the point of installing the camera, I would like the music player, but the DS games all have their own music that I can listen to, so overall, I would rather just buy a normal DS lite and play both GBA and DS games on it.

agreed. the only reason i would have is for the extra sd slot and bigger screen. with a flashcart, i can play media anyway on moonshell. I cant believe the DSi is just shy of $300 here in australia.

It's pretty worth it because it's like a DSL for $150 and then throwing in a camera and MP3 player for $30 (15 each) with internet, online shop, and the ability to edit your photos and music!

theres certainly nothing wrong with the Dsi, and I got 100 dollars trade in value for my lite so it wasnt that expensive (emulate your gba games and get over it, sheesh.) But we havent seen any good exclusive software yet... I'm VERY dissapointed in Dsiware so far, and have yet to even see a Dsi exclusive game be ANNOUNCED... I'm beginning to have virtual-boy-esque worries...

Note that DSL have a GBA game section for games.. some popular games for DS require a GBA slot to "integrate" the both games to improve plot. The camera is 0.3mp, that is so so so lousy, a phone with 2.0mp can sometimes barely take a nice picture! MP3 player, a phone have a player too, the music from a phone is pretty good depending on the year of production, but as long as you have a fairly new phone, you already have a camera and a music player! Edit your photo, if you take a picture with a phone or camera, you can edit it with a laptop. Overall, I strongly think that DSi will be a waste of money until they improve all the stuff..

i have an original ds.i really think the sd slot is great but then again the loss of the gba slot is a major down turn. maybe they will start selling downloads of gba games on the ds shop channel.the camera are alright and take fairly good image quality.i already have mostly aac files now so thats not a bad thing for me and you can go and convert music at youconvertit so its not a problem for me. plus you can edit the music there on the ds along with picture editing/mergingit can be worth it and is (if you have the origianl ds) at $170 so,i may get it

i recently go one and quite frankly its pretty good.its a major turnoff that there is no gba slot but with the original ds it was a major turnoff theat it only played gba and not other gb and gbc games. there isn't much on the shop channel but the do sell a few ds games i got mario vs donkey kong2 march of the minis. the camera is awsome but gets boring if your only taking pics of ur self. the only other downfall is that you cant play mp3s on the music player but its not hard to convert them.plus its fun to mess with the music as u listen to italso the internet is good but some sites don't work well because of limited memory. but mobile sites like myspace work just fine

Frankly, not much people play gb or gbc games because the graphic is just suckish. GBA games are just right, grest graphic and nice plots. Cameras and the music player might be cool to have, but I just noticed that it is aroung $170. Why dont people buy a PSP instead, it can watch movies and listen to music and store pictures too. PSP can also go onto the internet. I just think that DSi, to me, is a great disappointment. I might consider buying it, but I still like my PSP better.

A new DS itself is not a bad idea, and I’ve kind of expected one for a little while now. A game-console’s lifespan is traditionally 4-5 years as technology is constantly improving. This is partially spurred on by PC games as they are constantly improving as the strength of the platform is constantly growing. To “catch up” with the PC, a company’s console is updated to the latest (or near latest) hardware and then that market’s computing power essentially freezes for the next 5 years. The handheld market hasn’t followed this pattern however. Nintendo’s original Game Boy went uncontested for over 10 years. There were other contenders that entered the market, but none could beat this 8-bit machine in popularity and Nintendo felt little reason to update the line as it has its home consoles. Recently there has been an explosion in the portable entertainment market from mp3 players to cell phones that all can play games. Portable consoles are now starting to feel the pressure given by these devices similar to the PC’s effect on the home console market.Nintendo has apparently felt this pressure as in the past it has released three versions of the Game Boy Advance, and two versions of the Nintendo DS, each an effort to improve the image of the product in contrast to other devices. The last update was the DS lite, a cosmetic update to the admittedly dull looking DS. This update helped the DS as it made it a device that people weren’t embarrassed to carry around. The DSi is not this kind of update. The DSi is a functionality update. It adds abilities to the DS that didn’t previously exist. The first of which is the ability to take pictures. There are two cameras on the device, one on the outer-shell that acts much like a traditional camera, and one on the inside hinge that can act like a web-camera. The second addition is a SD card slot and internal storage. This allows for the capability of music and movies to be played on the device. Nintendo is going a little further though and inserting a browser and app store much like the one on the Wii. The rest of the hardware (processor, ram, etc…) is the same functionality wise. These updates create a divide in the Nintendo DS market. This divide can only hurt the DS. As the main hardware and firmware is the same, it runs the same games and any new games written for the new systems are theoretically compatible with the old devices, which have a huge install base. People with the current DS lite will not want to go and spend an additional $180 for a mediocre camera and music player when they already have their 8 MP camera and iPod. This becomes a premium version of a product they already own and many people won’t buy them. This gives developers a hard decision: develop a new kind of game that fully integrates these features and play to a portion of the market, make these capabilities optional and unnecessary to actual gameplay, or ignore them altogether. The latter two options are going to be the more popular choices. This makes the DSi a doomed device, joining the ranks of the Sega 32x and Nintendo Expansion Pak.What I imagine Nintendo should have done is do a full update of the device. While the DS is not dead, it is approaching the end of its lifespan. The graphics and functionality of the DS feel dated compared to that of the PSP and iTouch which are becoming more and more enticing to the gaming community. Throw in faster processors. Give it more RAM. Make both screens multi touch and increase the resolution. I wouldn’t mind spending $200 on a DSi that can compete with the iPhone in specs. The DS is approaching the end of its 5 year lifespan and it needs a real update.

Nice thread.I recently was in a dilemma between a DSi and a DS lite. When I learned the DSi cannot play old Gameboy game, it was an automatic no to me. Yea, the camera function is kinda nice, music/movie playing is kinda nice, but... at the price of no gameboy games? Bah. Until they decide to integrate that back in, DSi is going to largely get a thumbs down from their established customer base.Better processors, RAMs and resolutions, with full backward compatibility is what's needed.

Yeah...but this is all in one. No pockets stuffed with electronics! The only downside is no GameBoy Advance Games!

I just want to write and sell games and apps for DSi, but the closed business model of Nintendo is keeping independent developers out of the game (pun intended).Boo >.<

I don't think its worth it cause first of all i already have all those things and besides the camera would not be of the best quality and the mp3 player would never fit in my pocket so i personally prefer my ds lite not cause i have it cause like i said the DSi is not worth it.

Even the DS doesn't have "full backward compatibility", since they dropped the ability to play GB/GBC games, which the GBA supported.

Oops, sorry didn't see this. I doubt they will ever make DSi only games because there are just too many phat DS and DS lite's sold. There have been just (end of July 09) been released two first DSi enchanced games that will work on all models, just uses the camera as well if you got DSi.

The DSi is totally NOT worth it!Reasons:* Crappy sound quality* Improved graphics? Really?* 0.3 MP Camera! 0.3MP... that's like worse than VGA!* All the store features just makes it more complicated and is a waste of time!* Expensive for the features.* No place for the safe old R4DS* No homebrews* No GBA games! Over all DSi is CRAP! Just think about it! Wasting about AUD$300 on this thing is NOT WORTH IT! STICK TO DS LITE!

What do you mean by crappy sound? explainThere was no mention of improved graphics, also graphics are game dependent. Its only a larger screen, which means ur screen is stretched. Also you do know that there are DSi compatible flashcarts and you could always replace the old R4 with the R4i or any other DSi compatable flashcart. Which will allow you to run homebrews.
