Turbo mode and save states are great, but I find that real games have better and more comfortable control schemes

I'd admit that I'm a huge fan of VBA, and used to download ROMS daily. But as a hardcore player, i've noticed something... You don't have the real 'fun'(or feeling) when you're playing ROMS. Real games have this, and when you complete it you get a sense of achievement. Of course, when I'm playing VBA and complete a ROM I DO feel it, but it's lesser... As it's not real.

roms all the way....playing a game at original speed can be very boring...save state comes in handy too...considering that there are games that you are able to save everywhere and then load or reset why not save time and save/load state instead? For portable consoles i have to say that with an exception for nds The roms for those consoles can be played on your cell phone which is more portable that the 'real' consoles i for example play gba games on my symbian running phone using vbagx

Real games. It's nicer to actually own the thing. I don't know, I can't really explain it but most of you should understand what I mean. You know? Have you ever gone and downloaded a ROM then gone and bought the game after because you liked it so much? That's sorta like what I mean. Eh, yeah...

It really depends on the game and the system. For instance for the older systems like the SNES, it's ROMs all the way for me as I don't own the system and it's difficult to find one that works properly. And there's a big chance that even if I got one it would die off old age after a while. On the other hand for DS games it's more complicated. There are some games that I'd never buy, but would still like to play just for the fun of it, so I'll get the ROM (for example brain training). Then there are games which I buy without ever touching the ROMs, like the Final Fantasy games. Finally there are games where I just don't know whether I'll like them or not, so I download these play them and if I like them I still buy them. For instance I downloaded Luminous Arc, am now addicted to it and as soon as I get paid next month I'm going to buy the special edition of part 2 and if I have enough money left part one as well.

I like roms because of the fact that roms cant get scratched like cd's and dusty like cartridges. also cool features come with roms. and you can save any where you want.

I rather real games to be honest....However some ROMS are great because some you cannot but on the real NDS. For example, the pokemon platinum enhanced 1.3 is a great game but it is only a ROM.

I use both real and roms, and i find that roms are quite dependent on the emulators that they work on. take for example the ds roms, the ds emulator cant support Wifi, hence the game crashes, leaving us not much to do w/o the wifi. so real ones are better, except that you'll hav to pay for them adn also the console. =)

I personally like having the real thing. It makes me less guilty and you can have it in the car. The PC (or laptop) gets some time to get used to. Only problem is that the DSi doesn't have the Game Boy Advance anymore. A shame, really. However, the Roms are free and you don't have to hunt for it on EBay.

I like real games since they have the warranty, if the warranty is useless, then I will download the rom and play it..

I prefer the real thing. I dont know how to describe it but the real thing has got such a weird feeling and stuff when you play it. Thats what the Emus cant emulate. But some things on Roms kick donkey....like the Multiplayer (I love playing Online). Almost every System has got an emulator that's online-compitable so you got many to choose of.

you are right can't do mutltiplayerGPs were deducted for this post, please read the rules! - KM_

I like roms since I can sometimes save whenever I want and not at some save point or something. Plus on GBA I could speed up the game whenever I wanted to.

Roms and real hardware can go hand in hand. With emulators you can cheat with savestates and other features. This is good for playing through tougher games the first time through. It makes many unbearable games actually somewhat fun to play. There are many game controllers you can buy for PC that are much like normal console controllers. Logitech and Nyko had some good ones. You can hook up your computer to big screen HDTVs and they look great. HDTVs have computer ports on the back of them. But normal consoles give you the feel of the original controller, run perfectly when it comes to speed and just feels more comfortable. What I like to do is play through the game on an emulator to get a perfectly completed save to back up on my computer, then get the real games and play them again on the real systems just for fun or just get them for collecting purposes.I used to do a similar thing with Playstation RPGs and Gameshark. I'd beat it with cheats first making it an "extra easy mode" then play it normally. Think back to all the old games that had Easy, Normal and Hard settings. Gameshark is pretty much Extra Easy Mode.

It depends if it's a Japan only game I'd rather have the Rom since you can translate it but with US and Europe ROm's I'd probably rather have the real thing.

If I had to choose I would go with the actual games for two reason: one the nostalgia issue there's nothing like playing a super nes again because it brings me back to my childhood. Second is the control: the original controllers are made for the game systems and the games were designed with that in mind. You just dont get the same nuinased controll with a keyboard. Having said that though roms are great because i love playing old school games at any time anywhere on my laptop... So i guess its sort of a toss up... word

I only scanned the first page and read post 4 by dj night force 9 which provided the best analytic comparison. And I find it very useful.I had a gameboy which I gave away since I can't play anymore since I got in college. I missed my games so much I thought of getting the ROMS that a friend introduced to me. I believe there are pros and cons on both side but after trying both I prefer the ROMS. I experienced a problem with my GBA twice when both my harvest moon cartridges lost its memory, and I can't save a new file anymore. So those cartridges that loses memory were almost useless since I can't save my game for later continuation. In ROMS, I don't think I'd lose a save file but it's harder to play on the computer than on a handheld console.(woot...I'm typing in a dark cold room right now where mosquitos are bugging me.. :D so I won't check my post anymore for any slight errors because I'll turn off the laptop in a few min...)
