We're not basic- thus we can't be 'basically' anything. We're born neither good or evil. Good and evil are all a matter of perspective.

Now, I believe we are good enough to co-exist and to postpone annihilating our population--generally speaking.

Humans are innate, their surroundings and teachings dictate whether they become 'good' or 'evil' which are both relative terms, not to mention that no one can say with absolute certainty what is 'good' and what is 'evil'.

i think humans are, at the core, evil as of modern times.not to sond a hipocrite but humans kill of animals and forests that did fine untill technology evolved.i admit i eat meat but what can i say it is good.and that is my point eventhough i feel bad for animals killed for food yet i continue to eat meat because like many humans i like the taste.ill bet many humans are like that because humans are natural predators but we have the sentience to stop we just choose not to that is why i believe humans are evil deep down no matter what good they do.even vegitarians eat plants which we know are living things to

Humans are not predisposed to one or the other, just like any other creature born on this planet. But I do think tyhat we can define evil and good. Evil - deliberatly causing great harm, pain, or upset (taken from one of the many definitions in my Collegic Webster's Dictionary)Good - 1. showing an upright and virtuous character 2. Worthy of honour or high esteem (two of the many definitions in my Collegic Webster's Dictionary)With this in mind we can see that humans from a basic standing exibit none of these traits upon birth. We do not have the knowledge or the ability to choose from "right and wrong" or "good and evil" when we have just stepped forth from the womb. Through our experiences we can see that was is generaly pleasant is "good" and what is hurtfull or (to be redundant) unpleasant as "evil". But what really causes us to say that an action is truley evil. Would we not all agree that 911 was an evil action. It was an event that was meant to inflict harm, pain, and upset upon the United States. Even in the face of this evidence the terrorists would argue that it is not evil because they are commanded by God to destroy the "true evil" that is America. Ultimatly I think that evil and good on a basic level can exist as "one or the other" but when we try to combat "evil" with our own "evil" (War) The boundry between Good and Evil is lost.

As rumeal omega said,

humans are very complex beings

, and that's true, as everyone is different, you can't admit sentences like "human beings are all good in their hearts" or "humans are the worst creatures on earth" to be universal truths....but,,seeing what the humans have done all along the History (especially during the 20th century...), i would say that we are evil creatures: even the ones who are considered as "good and altruist" people have once done something considered as bad...everyone have "bad" feelings such as revenge, cruelty or sadism....i think it's anchored in the human spirit and that even if you try to avoid the situations where you could have these feelings, someone will make them appear because he tries to turn you crazy or to make you remember bad/sad memories....that's how we are (and, in this situation, was the person good or evil ?) and i won't feel guilty because i can be egoist or mean: that's how i am, and who could tell me that these feelings are "good" or "evil" ? How does he/she have the sufficient knowledge to tell that ? I think someone can be considered mean or evil when he/she has outpassed his/her rights and abused someone else (by killing, raping, making this person suffer....), that's my opinion, and i'm sure you won't agree with it, but, well, that's my vision of life...

There is a Chinese poem whose first 6 words say "When a human is born, it is kind". Which is very true.As for why there are evil/bad humans in the world, it's the environment that changes us. Just like pure water, it is pure as long it is not dirtied.

humans can be both. It's greed, pride, jealously etc that gets us to do harm.

There's no completely good or bad person. It's a mix. Just like nature. If there's light, there's shadow.

I think the question is really more of how do you (as an individual) define good and evil? sure, we do things that destroy the enivornment and such, but ultimatly it is for the greater good and advancment of our species. So, we may seem "evil" to some, but for the most part we're only trying to survive, just on a much more advanced level.
