WINDOWS 7 is coming out and is apparently going to fix all of Vista's problems. I read a PC World preview and it just looks like another Vista with a few fixes. What do you think?

From what I've heard, it might be nothing more than "Vista v2"... ;) Couldn't they spend just another 500 MB to give it everything XP got PLUS Vista's look and other features? T_T

Windows 7 is just one big Vista fix that promises to be faster, higher level of security and without some of the Vista junk that slowed down the system.

I read somewhere (can't remember where exactly) that an early build of windows 7 outperformed vista in all the benchmarks they did, so yeah it will definitely be faster and more secure. I'm not all that excited though since I've been using ubuntu for a long while now, and I just use windows for gaming. But of course an improve in windows will benefit a huge amount of people so it's good to hear it's going to be faster than vista (unlike vista in regard to xp)

I'm quite excited About Windows 7. I'm still using XP and still didn;t upgrade to Vista yet. I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7 though as soon as it comes out.

Not me, at least not immediately. After Vista, I can only wait for a few months to take a look at feedbacks, and if positive enough, I can set it up as a part of a 3x booting system along with XP and Fedora. Let's just hope it won't wipe out Fedora though, otherwise I'll have to reinstall it (but it probably will) :laugh:

I haven't looked into Windows 7 much... And I find they are rushing it out quite too quickly and might fall into another bad step just like Vista did.I'm actually quite pleased with Vista, although there are a few small issues, but thanks to the whole bad marketing and misinformed public, Microsoft completely failed in terms of sales of Vista.The numerous times I've seen clients coming in and bad mouthing about Vista either for:1. not liking the new interface2. hearing from someone not liking it without even trying it3. complaining about glitches that are actually caused by themIt's quite sad...

More like not liking the amount of resources consumed by the new interface... Otherwise the interface is its biggest plus.Still, if 7 is faster and gives better performance than Vista (and even XP) like Firebat said, I guess I will give it a try... But I will probably just wait and see how the feedback is for the first couple of months or even try it out on my friends' PCs who might install it early out of enthusiasm.

No, I hate the Vista/Aero interface. I would probably install WindowBlinds on Vista just to get the default XP theme back if I was forced to use Vista.

I am looking forward to the addition of something called "Direct2D" which will replace the very much aged GDI that has been used probably since the first versions of windows. Direct2D will allow hardware acceleration in the windows interface itself thereby shortening the time it takes to draw new windows and removing all the horrible limitations GDI (besides being slow, there was a limit on how many objects can appear on screen at the same time). In addition, it should also make way for some pretty sweet looking eye candy too. Read more about it here if you're interested.So yeah, I'll be getting it once it comes out but there's likely at least another year before is finished.

Oh, is that why the Windows shell is always so slow? It uses some aged UI?

Why am I not surprise, considering new tech is build from old tech. Sill, window 7 could be M$'s big break if they can manage to not screw it up like they did with vista (even though the only problem with it is the memory hog). Then again, what doesn't hog your memory nowadays. :mellow:

Windows 7 is what vista should have been shipped as, is pretty much what I read somewhere, but they wanted to get it shipped and screwed everything up. I purchased a laptop that had Vista on it. I suffered through almost a month of using it before I loaded XP onto it. At some point I will try W7, but I no longer get excited about that stuff. XP works just fine. Now if there's an upgrade on another program I use alot, THAT'S when I get a bit more excited. Depending of course on what new features have been added.

I've just finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate beta.After a fresh install, I can confirm that it is faster than Windows XP and Vista altogether.The new interface is somewhat different. The feel of the start menu is the same, except with an improved pinned items.What I'm really not used to is the new taskbar, where all the items are pinned, and the fact that the "Show Desktop" quick launch button as we know it is now on the far right next to the clock.It seems we'll have to get used to a modern style of the Control Panel, as no classic view was offered.Basically, a pretty much refreshed experience, and I'm quite pleased with it.The nicest part has to be the boot screen, not a lousy seemingly unfinished boot screen like Vista of that bar that goes left and right... instead, a nice "Windows is now starting" with 4 lights closing in and forming the Windows logo and giving an aura... Nice visual :)

Beta key is good until August 12.But yeah, it pretty much handles like an optimized version of Vista (with a few visual/interface changes). I was impressed by the speed though.

It better be faster than the other two with the addition of Direct2D.The new taskbar does seem gimmicky. Any way to disable it? Also, for Show Desktop, if you don't like the icon placement, Windows Key + M simultaneously should do the same thing if they haven't switched it since XP and Vista.I was gonna install Win7 last night on my netbook, but it just occurred to me that the ISO is 2.5GB and the largest flash drive I own is only 2GB. I need a different way to boot from that image file now...Also, the Win7 and XP ISO filesizes add up to 3.00GB precisely in Windows Explorer. Just a little fun fact. :lalala:

EXACTLY 3 Gigs to the very last byte (3 x 10243) or just very close to 3.00 GB? :PBTW, I see the min RAM requirement for 7 is 1 GB... How the hell is that thing working faster than XP/Vista? XD And if the OS alone takes 1 GB, what will happen when I put AV/Office/Nero/games etc. on it? ^^;

No no no, it is recommended that you have at least that much RAM. Not what the OS actually takes up. I'm guessing 7 have the same RAM management as Vista. Basically, it will use available RAM as a cache to load programs faster (superfetch), but it will free up RAM as soon as a program requires it. Anyways, as long as you have 1GB of RAM, you're good to go, just like Vista. However, more RAM is better because the OS actually put the RAM to good use.I have heard many good things about 7 lately. It kind of make me want to wait for 7.
