Well, Sims 2 (yeah, legit) seems to work fine with 7 (with UAC disabled), so I'm guessing it's compatible... BTW, today my 7 crashed for the first time with a BSOD when I tried to connect to the Internet. Cheers!

And it'll only go downhill from there. From what I've read, Win7 suffers from the same- old "starts out great, wears out into a smoking pile of crap within 3 weeks" syndrome that's plagued Windows since the dawn of time.

Anyone know where are the Windows Update files downloaded? I tried to update NVIDIA drivers using WU, only to receive a 80070006 error, and later found out that I need a modded inf to install it. I got the modded inf, but I now can't find where the update files are downloaded... Any idea?

It'd probably be safe enough to upgrade to it within a few weeks of release. Even the beta was pretty stable, with the RC1 being even more so. Windows 7 seems to be everything Vista should have been.

Ouch. Just when Duplex Secure released a Win 7 beta compatible version of SPTD (needed for Daemon and Alcohol), Win 7 RC again becomes incompatible with it... The beta was better than Vista in terms of b/w compat, but if diff. versions of the same OS have different compatibility levels, it might simply become Vista v2 by the time it's ready for release ;) And anyone else noticed a slight performance drop in RC compared to beta?Sorry to bump this, but anyone else having System Restore conflicts with XP? Everytime I start Windows XP, it always wipes out all System Restore points for Windows 7, regardless of whether I have System Restore turned on for the 7 partition in XP or not. The opposite is not true though, starting 7 does not do anything to XP restore points at all (I have turned off System restore for XP partitions in 7 though). Any solutions or at least suggestions? Other than this, 7 RC is doing a pretty good job right now, it will definitely turn Vista into obsolete at this rate, for high end machines, 7 is better than Vista, for low end, it's XP, so Vista might have nowhere to go now...

My laptop I am using right now is Vista, I hate it! Alot of online games are not compatible with Vista and so I cannot play anything, except for a few like runescape and battleon. I will want to get windows 7 as soon as possible and fix all the game compatible rate. Uh, I am regreting buying this laptop..

I preordered Premium for 49.99. I figure it'll be cheaper than any OEM copy so it'll be nice to snag a copy before I have to pay full price; tempted by the Professional version but there are features I don't use so I'll save the 50 bucks. I'll wait before installing it though.

I won't be going up to Windows 7 anytime soon, but anything is better then Vista. Granted I didn't work with it a lot, but there were a lot of things that just didn't flow well. And that stupid "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO RUN THIS PROGRAM?!" feature? Damn that was annoying (thankfully, you can shut it off). I'm sure I want to run notepad. I doubt it's dangerous. :P

It's slightly less annoying in 7 (it won't ask you whether you want to run things as basic as Notepad, paint etc... UNLESS you're stupid enough to max the UAC settings, that will make it practically unworthy of using, just like Vista) , but sometimes interferes with installation of a lot of things. Best thing to do is to turn it off immediately after installation and use your own brain to decide if you know what you're doing. But seriously, the compatibility issue is almost completely eliminated after installing Virtual PC + Virtual XP. ;) So anyone with a dual/quad CPU and 1-2 Gigs or more RAM might want to check it out. But of course, if you're still stuck with a P4 and like 512 MB RAM and don't feel like upgrading anytime soon, do stick with XP, upgrading will actually work like a downgrade in your experience.@thug: You can always download the Win7 Ultimate RC for free from the official site... or was today the last day they were offering it as download? If so, torrent it (it's not illegal in this case, after all). Granted it's not the final version, but it's already looking pretty stable if you do a clean install, and it does improve compatibility like you said. It will work smoothly till March 1st, 2010, and the retail version comes out in October 22, 2009, so it's not like you'll be left without it at any poing once you upgrade. :foldarms:

Not really excited about 7, i already tried hte evaluation version from microsoft its nothing special, maybe only slightly faster, but all of you people that have said vista games arent compatible you are in for a real shock, cause alot of games arent compatible with 7 either. As 7 is an upgraded version of vista, though must game companies are making patches for the games as they know that millions of people will upgrade/buy 7.

I'm not really sure if Windows 7 will work well. My professor in programming told us that Windows 7 and Vista contains many bugs. He even recommend us to use XP first until Microsoft announced about better upgrade of the system.

Excited, but I already have xp and 2 gig of ram, so if I were to upgrade would probably need to buy more ram too, so I'll just stick with xp for now
