They might be developing a game that uses neither the touchscreen or buttons, but a completely voice-operated control system, and they need everyone to have a mic for it to work :D

I hate the DS Lite placement of the mic. Usually, you have to get up close and personal with the mic to use it effectively, so when I get the recommended 6 inches from it, I can barely see either of the screens and it really strains my eyes to look downward for so long.I thought the mic on the bottom of the DS was great because you still had a full view of both screens. To each his own, I guess.

I doubt game developers really had an idea how to incorperate the microphone because it's distracting to stop what you're doing and blow into a tiny little hole. I personally think it was put in as another gimmick and make playing the DS more interactive.

i think they added the mic as an added feature if the games that would be released on the DS would utiliza an interface that uses a mic

In my belief, I don't think many game creators are taking the NDS microphone into account. It is a new piece of technology, as far as using it to play games but not for cooperative multiplayer purposes. It requires you to blow and yell into it (and may develop into a talking device), not something that's familiar to the video game world (unless your a CS addict). It does however appear that DS games are slowly adapting to the MIC. and will probably be much more used in the future...... which is bad for us emulator types who can't figure out the dang microphone function!

they are starting to make games in which u can blow into the mic to get a gust of wind or something like that. so now the mic is kinda useful

There's an awful lot more input for the subject than I anticipated... :weep: I think it would be decent if they made a walkie-talkie function for the DS, which is similar to PictoChat, but instead you're speaking, not writing. Then again, if there's no one around, it's pretty much pointless, so it's questionable.

Nintendo likes to add weird gimmicks into their systems. It's kind of annoying, but things like the microphone often make the games that involve them more interesting in some way.

I know Nintendogs does because it came with my DS. I don't think they utilize the microphone a lot because the receptiveness of the thing is so horrible that the game turned into something that i could only use a home with the bathroom door closed because i had to scream at the thing like a drunken idiot to get it to her "sit"

well, i think adding a mic feature on some games makes it more interesting like mystery games which you would guess how to operate a device or something..

Just an update on the list of games. I just remembered that Guitar Hero: On Tour also uses the microphone, which is pretty cool, considering how it makes full use of the DS as a whole. As for my opinion, I suppose it doesn't make a difference if it's there or not because it doesn't take up a speck of space on the DS. But the DS Lite's placement of the mic does show some improvement.

i wouldn't like to see the mic on the old ds then- cus on brain training when I talk to it it doesn't make out a thing im saying. i say it slow and claerly it wont recognise it, nor when i speak fast and clearly

well it was useful for the few games that required it, wasn't it?If it wasn't there the manufacturers of those few games would have to create a whole new system just to have a microphone.

brain age used the mic a lot..for the test where you have to say the colours you see aloudi think the mic is there just incase creators wanted to integrate it into the game...its better to have one than to have players complain one day that "a mic woulda been awesome!"

Some games do have mic compatibility, but it's not part of the game itself. For example, when playing with friends, Metroid Hunters, FE: Shadow Dragon, and Pokemon allow you to chat via the mics. Unfortunately, the voices can be of bad quality and hard to understand, or at least they were for me. But anyway, I agree that more games could use this, I mean, Ace Attorney was hilarious, yelling at Apolllo and Phoenix, who would start shouting 'objection'....good times.

That's a good point, but it's fun even in those little parts of games that utilize the microphone. Soon more games will probably be created to use the microphone.

Its probably just some advertising gimmick to make it look 'multi-useful" you know. All the little kids cant wait to look high tech with their mics and gameboys. It is usefulfor games like virtual pet and all tthose other kiddy games.

The microphone was in my opinion, one of the half-baked ideas stuffed into the DS just to make it look impressive. That and it was a tool they had to put in for nintendogs, which was a great game for casual gamers. For hardcore gamers though, I believe that the mic is this thing meant only to annoy and make you look stupid in public; do game developers realise how much shame it takes to talk to that piece of technology in your hands? Unfortunately, the DSi is going down the same path with the camera. A weak camera which doesn't serve much of a purpose? No thanks. I would have preferred the effort and resources spent on the camera to go somewhere else. Just like how I would prefer game developers to stop forcing people to use mics in their games (I'm looking at you Zelda, The World Ends With You and Brain Age).

doesn't it help in pokemon if you say "gotcha" repeatedly into the mic as you attempt to capture a pokemon also nintendogs uses it but nintendogs is a sick twisted and disturbing game :gs:POINTS were deducted for this post by KHRSPlease refer to the forum rules to find out why your points were deducted.

To me, the microphone is just another example of Nintendo adding some really questionable gimmicks to their consoles. Honestly, building it right into the console seemed pretty pointless to me. I think a game that just used a microphone addon that could be plugged in through the GBA slot would have been a much smarter idea to minimize the aforementioned screen-spittle :smile1:

The DS has a microphone installed into it, but there are not many games that use it, as far as I know. The only games I've seen use for the microphone are Trauma Center 2, and New Super Mario Bros (minigames). So what use was the microphone if they hardly made games that utilize the mic? I don't mean to sound judgmental, but the issue just came to mind...Thoughts? Opinions? Comments?

they thought it would be cool but it wasn'tPOINTS were deducted for this post by kiza19Please refer to the forum rules to find out why your points were deducted.
