I would go with a dragon. I mean, what else do you really need? A dragon lets you fly around, and you can use its fire breath to burn people you don't like...

I'd choose a dragon, feeding it would be such a pain but watching it grow up and flying with it would be worth it

Is there a mythical creature that can transform into any other mythical creature or at least mimic other creatures? I think having that kind of a creature would be convenient for all sorts of things. As most people mentioned, transportation would be easily taken care of with a flying creature and having it transform into a more friendly creature would make it easy to have it as a pet.

Maybe a dragon or a phoenix. Dragon for firepower and phoenix for rebirth.

If we're talking about mythical animal companions then a pegasus or a dragon would be sweet to fly around on. You couldn't ride a phoenix but I assume it could heal any wound you might sustain.

Probably a fairy. They seems cool to have around and they look so cute. They can hide easily and reappear when they want to.
