The Hylian shield has always been rounded, it just that this concept art enhances the curve. That is assuming that it is the hylian shield in it.
I have survived 10 hours of derp. Can you handle the challenge?

the hylian shield isn't round... wait, what i meant was the normal metal one is sorta round but not completely like a round shield, but in the concept art it gives me the illusion it is. anyways...MASTER SHIELD!!!

Personally, I think the figure looks more like one of the characters that was in the Twilight Realm from Twilight Princess. I don't see much of a resemblance to the sword, more like the tall, freakishly awkward creature things in there. And as someone said before, the artwork is similar so there could be some sort of connection there.
