My friend and I are fighting over if the Links in the Zelda games, you know Link the main character, is a reincarrnation of Link or "a bunch of knock-offs"?

No, you're confused. Link is the main character in ALL zelda games. He is always trying to save a princess names zelda. (i think, haven't played ALL of them, but...) If you're talking about Link as in the old NES game Link, then no it's certainly not a knock-off. That was just the only game named that. (look carefully, it's still the legend of zelda.) Oh, and the wind waker is not a knock off either, it's just another adventure for our hero. Glad I could be of service. And be nice to those chickens!!!

Wind Waker takes place 100 years after Ocarina of Time. So all teh links are not the same. Unless link found the fountain of youth or something. =P

Oh they're the same guy all right. All of them have the same basic characters, but just a different story. It's for the people out there who can't handle change.

the links in the zelda`s games are in some cases teh same like " A link to the past" and links awakenyn an some are recarnation, u can use the two games mentioned the frist one is like the presrent and the next is the bakc ground history, even not allways link is going to save zelda and win the triforce like in links awakening. nad i thik the only link that is a reencarnation is the one in wind waker

Why would wind waker be 100 years after OoT because he is a child in Wind Waker (also in OoT) but he grows to an adult in 7 years so I think the links must be in different timelines so be reincarnations. Some people say the first game wasn't Legend of Zelda and say it all started with the Atari game Adventure.

it's called "legend"... legend isn't supposed to be true...it's like different folk tales coming one over one another... or smth like that

Link and Zelda were both Elves - they live "forever", so time is not a matter here :P

I dont think there's a real answer, except for Windwaker. I think its just how you interpret it. For me, I always thought that it was always Link, off on a new adventure. There's arguements for both sides. On the one hand if it was the same Link, how come he doesnt know who Ganon is each time, or where does all his weapons go.But on the other hand, each reincarnation seems to look exactly alike, and then there's a reincarnation for Princess Zelda each time too... and Gannon... So I think its just your opinion on it.

I don't know if this makes sense or not, but I don't think there is supposed to be a definite time line linking (bad pun) all the games together. I agree w/ what someone had posted earlier about Zelda and Link being elves (or something similiar).. so in that sense, if you mix that w/ the LOTR theory (that elves live forever) it wouldn't matter if it is 100 yrs later. Now w/ the thing concerning if Link is an adult or a child, maybe they have some sort of time warp.. or magical portals/potions that can somehow zap them to a different place or point in time. I guess the ppl behind making the games weren't really concerned about how well each game's plot/timeline followed through w/ the next. Plus I wonder if the ppl that initially worked on The Legend of Zelda for the NES ever thought how many sequels or games that would spin off after the game they had created.

The original creator for the series is still the creator working on the newest installment.Honestly this entire argument comes down to a matter of personal opinion and interpretation, with each individual having his or her own response to the question. Looking at the games (me having played them all, I'm a junkie), I'd say many of the Links we know and love are reincarnations of prior Links, the name being the same because, as someone else pointed out, of the word 'Legend' in every title. The only two Links that are actually the same, and intentioned as such as far as I know, are those in OoT and Majora's Mask. In Majora's Mask, Link has spent a few years on his own searching for Navi, that annoying fairy buddy of his from OoT. In OoT, and this supports a few theories of odd time warps, Link moved between a ten or eleven year old and an adult (a difference of seven years) through use of the Master Sword. All the Links in the series wield the Master Sword at some point, I believe. But yes, it's all a matter of opinion and interpretation. :D
