I don't judge people with tattoos but for some reasons I stay away from them because there is this unsafe feeling when I see people with tattoo. You see in our country there is what we call "Pintados" a tattoo person has corresponding tattoos depending on who or what or how many he or she killed. Tattoos are meant to be symbols of killing. So I have no idea why or how it became a fashion statement. It might be because people thinks it's cool because you look dangerous or something like that but to me I think it's not nice looking like a killer. That's just the history and I know it's nothing like today's era. Just wanted to tell the origin of tattoo >.<Though, I think you shouldn't get one because it might cause some skin problems, like allergy or so. But if you don't have any problems then I guess it's fine. Get a tattoo that will express who you are not what you are pressured or curious to take. Because that stuff will stay for a long time.

Personally, I would judge people if they have tattoos. I know it isn't right, but it implies a tough nature, a nature that is aggressive. I've associated tattoos with gangsters. For example, the Chinese Triads and the Japanese Yakuza use tattoos all of the time, striking fear into peoples' souls before striking. If the tattoo is childish, like a unicorn, I would think otherwise. But most tattoos are intimidating, and only a few are cute. That's my opinion. Also, though it may seem OK today, don't you think it will be awkward 50 years later? The tattoo would become incredibly disfigured by then.

It seems that it depends what tattoo you're gonna take. Aggressive, childish or anything else, tattoo is an art not only for decoration but also a way of expression. So it's one reason people judge a person depending on the tattoo he/she wears.Well, although I disagree about judging first before knowing the person, I guess one should get an ample impression on the tattoo a person wears. True, dangerous people like gangsters wear tattoo and anyone should stay away from these people but later on, if the person shows his/her true nature is different from the impression, we should not cling on that first impression.About your last sentence, I sort of agree about that. Later on, when a person ages the skin wrinkles so it wouldn't look nice anymore.

generally, i don't like tattoos. one or two small ones in places that are shown only when wearing a two piece bathing suit is all i can deal with. i can't deal with people that have big tattoos or have tattoos going up their arm or legGPs were deducted for this post, please read the rules! - tedsb16

It depends on the person and what the tattoo is.Most people get the dumbest tattoos, like barcodes on the back of the neck or white people getting random Japanese writing on their wrists or those stupid stars and all that crap. It's nonsense, tattoos have become a fashion trend and quite a stupid one at that. To me, a tattoo should mean something to the person who gets it, beyond a fashion statement or some generic platitude.

Exactly! So what you're saying is that a tattoo should symbolize say, a deep personal meaning. Such as; overcoming a disability right? Something personal like that. It is an excellent thing to say. Getting tattoos "just for fashion" bugs me to no end... They are forever and definitely should have a meaning to the bearer. If the tattoo has no meaning; what is the point of getting it anyway? You could symbolize using different methods if that is what you are aiming for. Okay; here is an example. You are part of a sports team, and then you get fired/cut off of the team; and you still had the tattoo... You would probably regret it right? Some people might... Some people might not; especially of you liked the team you were on. My example stinks... sorry, but anyway a deep personal meaning is what every tattoo bearer and people wanting to get tattoos to think about. Also; about the judging thing... I judge people but I don't say it to their faces. thank goodness right? Because I'm kind of speak my mind when it comes to judging people.

I will think positively because it is general in nature ... everyone can do it .. and I think it is not illegal although in some religions it is forbidden to ... after all the tattoos are considered as personal decoration for some people ..but I will not ever make a tattoo because I thought it was annoying to me ... even if it is free to make it .. but some people are very proud of considering it if they have a tattoo ... so it was very general in nature and all people must be thinking positive ... that's my opinion .dgemu.com<3GPs were deducted for this post, please read the rules! - tedsb16

For a lot of people this is probably a very touchy subject. Especially those who have a tattoo(s). I personally feel that one or two tattoos in non-obvious places can be a very beautiful thing (as long as they're not too raunchy or just plain dumb). Having said that, there are some people who take the whole tattoo thing way too far. Arms, Legs, Chest, Back, Neck and some unmentionable places all tattoed on the same person can look completely and utterly horrible and can also cause the person to look trashy or just not a very nice person to be around. If you're gonna get a tattoo, like Keiko said a few posts up, you should really get something that has significant importance or meaning to you. I have a very small USMC[US Marine Corp] tattoo on my upper arm because the Marines really changed my life and it will always be a part of me. Having said all that, just keep it classy and meaningful if you're going to get a tattoo and in 99.9% of circumstances it won't be something that's brought under scrutiny by others.

I agree with you that tattoo is a permanent mark that when people see, there is a great chance that you would be judged. And also, I don't think tattoos are created for fashion. Tattoo is an art that symbolizes something about the person wearing it. Like from my previous post, tattoos were used to symbolize the number of people a person killed. There are also tattoos that were used to mark slaves (I forgot what country did that but I've learned that from high school). Also, tattoos can risk an opportune job, sports, or whatever that has rules that tattooed people are not allowed to enter. Think about it very hard before getting one.

I don't think Keiko was saying that tattoos were created specifically as a fashion statement, just that they're treated as one nowadays.Yeah, some college kid getting some random ying-yang or tribal tattoo isn't going to do me any harm, but I'm still going to think that people who get tats like that are douchebags. Anyone who goes that far just to appear hip, edgy, or "unique" is trying WAY too hard.Getting a military or prison tattoo, or even an original drawing is something a bit more meaningful and therefore respectable, at least in my eyes.

in a way, everyone judges everyone else. you may not realize it but humanbeings in a whole are judge mental. people judge others in a variety of ways, you got a conceled tat. no problem noone will ever really get to judge you on that. but say you wear your hair differently or try a new style. everyone you pass is gonna have a mental thought about that. its really only a question of "do you really care about what a random stranger thinks of you?". me myself have my baby boys name "Bishop" handwritten under a chess peice on the back of my neck, and if anyone said something negitive like "wow look at that ****." or what not, i kindly inform them of why its there.as for you'r question. my fav. quote "the people that matter don't care. the people that care, don't matter"

For the past month, I have been considering getting a tattoo. If I were to get one, it would be a simple tribal tattoo on one of my shoulders. It would be easy to hide for job interviews, meeting friend's parents, etc. but I'm still unsure. I am curious - when you see someone with a tattoo, do you judge them? If so, in what way? Personally, I don't judge people, although I wonder how a person with a full body tattoo or a sleeve tattoo will feel 50 years later. Thanks for the input.

Oh I judge them alright. I try not to. But I do. I don't think that they are crazy, or sinful, or scary, or anything like that. I just form an opinion about what their personality be like. I don't have a problem with tattoos on other people, when done well they can be beautiful works of art. Even people who tattoo their entire body, I can respect. It throws me off, and I certainly wouldn't even get a small tattoo (I hate needles), but I can respect them for it. I just laugh when I think about how the tattoo will look when their skin begins to sag. It's really only when people flaunt their tattoos *cough* tramp stamps with sagging pants *cough* that I judge them negatively. A person who dresses and acts professionally and friendly but has tattoos, I treat no different than anyone who dresses and acts professionally and friendly and has no tattoos. It all boils down to personal taste. What do you want to look like? If you like the tattoo, and are comfortable with people's reactions to it, then go for it.

I am 16, and for most I've my life I couldn't comprehend why someone would want to do that to themselves - mostly I'd only seen people in my family's tatoos, like my grandads, who are all green and old. But recently, a lot of my friends have been getting them and I think that they look so nice. Granted,, in 50 years, they won't look so good, but you probably won't be trying to impress many people in 50 years, because most people would have families and stuff. I really want one, a small spiders web on my ankle, or some words in another language or something. I think there a great way to express yourself ;)

based on my own experiences some people do judge persons who have tattoos. and if you seek of a noble profession like a doctor or something, i suggest you don't have one, but if you really love tattoos.. then probably put it somewhere discretely.. And I mean you can get tattoos only if you are mature right? So it's you own consent to have one or not, don't mind other peoples opinion about, just do what you like.. <3 and don't regret by doing it.. think twice.. personally I'll get one myself after I land a job..

It depends if I judge them from their tattoos or not.I am kind of an observer (not always). I observe a person and take in every bit of his appearence, then I take my decision about that person. It's not like I am always right. Tattoos, in some cases shows a lot of the person's personality. For example, a punk kind of man with a punk kind attitude and a tattoo of a skull means that people will stay away from him as much as possible. If you really want a tattoo, pick it carefully. If there is no problem go.

I agree with Arnocbsk.I know a lot of people who judge based on tattoos. Employers, most especially. In my opinion, tattoos sometimes makes someone seem unapproachable. Not a bad way, but to the many un-inked persons, tattoos show off a sense of danger and daring. It's intimidating sometimes. But I don't like that tattoos are given a bad rap. My professor has an entire sleeve--but whether it's 100 degrees out or not, he never takes off his long-sleeved shirt. He's not ashamed of his tattoos, but he doesn't believe that it's appropriate for work.In that way, I agree with him. But I judge more on what kind of tattoo you got, rather than the fact that you got one.

I'm trying hard not to judge people with tattoos, and the mild ones like a loved one's name, one's own initials etc really don't matter to me. However, when the real outrageous ones spanning entire arms, backs or chests come, it really becomes hard to stay neutral. The tattoos themselves might not carry any negative connotations, but the associations we draw on people with tattoos make them a prime target for prejudice. In eastern culture, gangsters often tout tattoos depicting their gangs' logos, symbols, and one can hardly escape from being labelled a gangster, ex-criminal, or delinquent if one is spotted with a tattoo.

I could see how someone that doesnt have one would think that but most tattos are usually personal so it all comes down to someones self of steam. in the end weither its a sleeve or just a simple insignia the choice should always and only rely on if you want itGPs were deducted for this post, please read the rules! - tedsb16
