for any body that did not know, outside of the imperial city waterfront from 11:38pm to 2:00am on any day,you can find a guy carrying a torch next to a stone wall and the side of a house. talk to him to join the theives guild and follow the foot steps of the grey fox (the game's#1 thief). the ultimate prize, the skeleton key. the skeleton key is a lockpick that never breaks so you can always keep pressing auto-atempt and it will never break. but head my warning, dont drop it because you can never give it back. HAVE FUN!

Umm...No.You get the Skeleton Key from the daedric quest Nocturnal. The "ultimate prize" of the Thieves' Guild questline is the Grey Cowl of Nocturnal, which allows you to basically assume an entire different person while wearing it. If you place it on, you automatically get a 500 gold bounty on your head, but anything you kill with it on will not count towards your bounty with it off or vice versa (in fact, anything that adds to your bounty will only effect your "person" with it on). So, for example, if you murder an entire town with it on and then take it off, you won't have the bounty on your head without the cowl on.You can also start the Thieves' Guild questline by getting arrested for anything (not entirely sure if it HAS to be in the Imperial City or not) - when you get released, a Dunmer named Myrvyna Arano or something like that comes up to you and tells you to go to the Garden of Dareloth at midnight. Or, you can examine a wanted poster of the Grey Fox anywhere in the Imperial City and then get a high enough disposition with any beggar, and they will also tell you to go there.
