I haven't got the time or patience to sit and read books so i usually just watch the film, of the books that i have read i have found the film to be a better experience.

I prefer reading the book first then watching the movie. This way I can see how my brain interprets the story, and then see how another person interpreted the same story.

If I can, I will watch a movie before I read the book that it's based on. I tend to enjoy the movie more like that, because I won't constantly be judging it against the high standards that I have of the book. All too often, though, the books that I love get turned into movies, so I sit in the movie theater and wallow in my disappointment.

It depends, I like watching if they do the movie well, but I really feel they ruin a lot of books when they make them into movies.

I always prefer books over the movies they've been made into, and generally, I always read the books first. The only thing I like about book-movies is seeing how certain special effects were achieved/interpreted =] Otherwise, I agree with jessica-- a lot of books are ruined when made into movies.

It really depends on the story, for me. If I can, I prefer to read the book before seeing the movie based on it, so I can get a feel for the original story and see where the movie is coming from. The problem with this approach is that I have preconceived notions of certain characters and/or scenes, and I find that sometimes the vision of the moviemakers does not match my own. If it is a question of one over the other, I would prefer reading, though watching the movie takes less time and mental effort.

Depends on the situation. If the book/movie is humorous / first person / otherwise, then I'd go with the book. But if it tries to describe awesome special effects, then the movie - see, for example, Douglas Adams for reading vs Transformers for viewing.

I prefer reading the book because the book usually takess me longer to read then watchin the 70+ minutes of the movie does. Plus the movie tends to skip 'un-important' parts.

reading first i think is better because the movie version usually cuts out a lot of things, like the harry potter or the lord of the rings, a lot of stuff from the book never made it to the big screen. so it's better to read first.

I like reading better because I collect a lot of manual books and classic novels. I wanted to have a library at our house someday....

I prefer reading, if it's about books. Manga/Anime is a total different matter, I prefer animes to manga, the still pictures somehow doesn't give out the full effect.

I prefer to read the book. You can imagine everything the way you want it. However, a movie is much easier, you can just relax while watching it cause you don't really have to do anything.
