I prefer reading the book first, and then watching the movie. It really helps in situations like Eragon. Epic book, bad movie.

In general, I prefer to read the book. I can knock out a 300 page book in a day, so if it's not too long I'll always pick the book. Alas, I usually don't have time. So while I prefer to read the book, I usually end up seeing the movie.

I don't like reading, so if I can I would be watching the movie.

As some have said, I prefer the book over the movie but don't usually have the time. The book just gives you so much more of the story, and it has more time to allow events to unfold. The few times I have seen a movie based on a book I've already read, I'm generally disappointed. The one exception is the Harry Potter series, due to better action scenes in the movies.

If the movie was adapted from the book I would read the book after watching the movie..If the book was a result of the movie being popular I wouldnt read the book cos It would not contain more details than the movie in most cases..A lot of times though I would have already read the books and thus looking forward to watching the movie as well.. Though a times I am disappointed as to the movie as it does not live up to the awesomeness of the book itself..

I prefer reading because if i visualize enough it's like they made a movie, only you don't have to worry about horrible acting, voicing, camera, lighting, etc, etc.

I usually prefer watching the movie (like for instance Lord of the Rings series and Stardust), but sometimes if the movie is terrible (like Ella Enchanted), I would honestly prefer reading the booking. So I guess it depends.

I prefer reading over watching. There's so much your imagination can give you that a movie often doesn't quite grasp a hold of. There's also the fact that so many small details and nuances get lost when translating a novel length book into 1.5-2 hours of film.

I'd prefer watching the movie because reading the book would be way too long and boring.

Well since I'm not much of a reader I think I'd rather watch the movie. Though thinking about it now I'm pretty sure I'm going to go back to more reading because I want to get as much intelligence/education as I can.

I think they both have pros and cons!Watching the movie keeps you watching for a few hours. Once watched it gets boring for another year. Watching a film beats a book because you can do it at any time.Reading the book keeps you reading for much long and gives you much more fun. The only thing is... sometimes its hard to picture what you're reading.I would pick book, i dislike tv!

The book versions are usually better than the film versions. Films don't really have enough time to explore characters with depth and usually just focus on the basic plot. There are only a very few exceptions where the film has been better than the book - Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is probably the only one I can think of right now.

Unfortunately in most cases, I've already read the books of any movies. However, I've yet to read a Harry Potter novel and I've seen all the films. I may delve into the books, since the Fantasy genre is already a forte.Reading before usually makes the movies a giant let down. I wasn't as disappointed as some were with Peter Jackson's LoTR take.

gotta go with reading. movies are always edited too much, usually leaving out lotsa good details. books let you really get into the story, finding out everything that you need to know

definiately reading the book is way better than the movie. I have never watched a movie that is actually better than the book. However, on the other hand, I have watch movies that ruined the book for me. For example, I went to went "The Vampire's Assistant" because I really enjoyed reading the book. But the movie protrayed and changed soo much of the book, I hated it!! :D
