I grew up on Sonic, so I don't have a hard time with those games at all now. However I have little experience with 2D Mario games and I am terrible at them. Does anybody have an opinion on which 2D games are harder?
Are old school Sonic or Mario games more difficult?

Like you I grew up playing sonic (on MS and MD) so have no problems there - but I don't like Mario games from the same era - they just don't seem to have the same degree of control... but it may be a case of what I am used to playing

The old Mario games are kinda of hard. Don't see real difficulty in them. The modern ones are far too easy, like Super Mario Galaxy.

I'm actually exactly the other way around from you. I was raised on Mario and am still pretty much excellent at both the older and newer Mario games to this day for it. But, we never at any time owned a Sega, so the first time I ever played a Sonic game was when I was about 15 and over at someone's house, and I was SO lost on how to play it. They both have very distinctive gaming styles, and I think when people get raised on one or the other, it definitely influences a lot in the games they end up preferring when they get older.
