I think that most video games certainly involve a lot of memorization, but whether you can apply any of that to the real world I find relatively unbelievable. I can't really see video games enhancing the amount of information you can recall. I think you merely are often more interested in the content and are therefor better able to remember it. I don't think that has anything to do with for example, remembering every president of the U.S.

I've also heard that video games can help improve your memory, but I really think that it depends on the game. Puzzle games might be a good candidate for something like that whereas I can't see a hack-and-slash helping with something like that.

It did for me but only in a game context.Rpg's are best with this as they have lots of story content as well as item content which makes you remember a particular set you might like.Overall i think remembering objectives for some quests were a bit hard at times.

At the very Least I believe it probably increases the amount of things you can memorize. If you apply what you like to something else they become instinctive making it easier to remember. If you connect strategy games such as fire emblem you can apply the strategies to games like chess to beat your opponents. It all depends on the subject and what you attach it to, Strategy and thinking ahead? try thinking of fire emblem and what your opponents might do. Need to remember a list of things with difficult names and definitons such as the periodic table of elements try applying the number of pokemon to each number of an element. the more stuff there is in a game to memorize the more you increase your potential to remember things as long as you apply it to something you like.

Depends what kind of game you play. I mean some games are just pointless and pretty dumb. But there are some games specifically for memory training and what not. Plus it probably depends on how much you focus on the game and if you like it or not.I mean I didn't really get any better at memorizing anything because for starters I'm pretty bad at remembering things, but I have a friend that has a pretty good memory and he says that video games helped him. Who knows, people's minds works in different ways so not everyone can have the same result.

"Games" is a very broad term. Saying that games improve memory is like saying writing on a piece of paper improves your memory. If you just scribble, it's not going to improve your memory. If you list things and keep doing memory exercises, it will. There are games that improve your memory, and there are those that don't. But I think we can safely assume that most do not. Although a game like Pokemon for example, I could say has had an effect on my personal memory. By the time I stopped playing it, I had memorized over 300 pokemon, each knowing at what level it evolves, when it learns certain moves, and even in which areas and in which games they appear. That's a lot of information, and the brain benefits from such exercise. So yes, I do believe such games can impact memory.
