The 2012 theory doesn't even come from a REAL Mayan calendar. The original idea of the world ending in 2012 was introduced in a film in the 1920's. No apocalypse is predicted according to the real calendrics from the Mayans. December 2012 marks the end of the Mayan long count calender also called a calendric. The long count calender has a mythological start and end date. When the calender ends it just restarts. As for burden of proof, I am currently seeking a degree in anthropology with my focus being archaeology. I work very closely with an archaeologist at my school whose expertise is in Yucatan Peninsula.

The Mayans didn't have this "ancient wisdom" that some people seem to think they had; it's just a bunch of conspiracy theorists and other breeds of idiots who buy into that. If the Mayans were so smart, how come they couldn't come up with even basic medicine?Also, Nostradamus' "predictions" are extremely broad and therefore VERY open to interpretation. I agree with everyone here that the world won't end in 2012 HOWEVER let us not forget what we are doing to our world. We are destroying it. But some might tell me: "World looks fine" .... For now, mainly because we've been damaging it slowly over the years with all our pollution and if we don't slow down anytime soon, we are going to die. Not the end of the entire world, just us. Nature will go on, and we will be just another bad memory in the history of the Earth. I'm not saying 2012. I'm just saying that the world will end. OUR WORLD. That which has a beginning has an end. Again, I'm not saying 2012. I'm thinking September 9, 2064. Well, whatever date it may be, it is inevitable as Death is inevitable. Don't even think about avoiding it for one usually meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it. Like an endless cycle of us destroying the earth and then the Earth destroying us and starting over? ...Well, for one, you're right. But not all things are left to fate. We can change our destiny if we break the cycle and learn from our past mistakes. I'm not saying we can stop the end of time. Obviously that which has a beginning has an end, but hey if we can extend our time, why not?Better than just sitting around doing nothing because whether you do something or you do nothing, Tomorrow will come. @BlazeShaman: But anything can just happen. No one expected 9/11 to happen but it just did. No one expected the Thailand Tsunami or the Haitii Earthquake they just happened. There are things that just happen and there are things that are already happening but are too slow to realize until it's too late, like our damaging the planet, only the good part is it's not too late. We can still make a difference. I agree on one thing you said though, I too think that it is just another theory to feed the superstitious, but it might not be a bad thing to be prepared but it is a bad thing to be overly cautious. Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery but Today is a gift; that's why it's called the Present :PEnjoy the Present while you can because inevitably, things will change. For the better or the worse, I cannot say, but for sure things will change. Everything has always been changing. If nothing changed, there would be no butterflies.
