Its an expression of Human creativity except more interactive. People can sometimes be defined by the games they buy and play as much as the type of static art they enjoy.

There's a lot of art within games. Like the visuals on Donkey Kong Country for SNES, or the music in Final Fantasy III (VI) for SNES. But there are other factors too like replay value.

Yes, It takes art to create them and it's no simple doodle. There's so many levels of art within each little thing and as games become more advanced so do the designs because the artist's have to get every teeny tiny detail and it takes so much time for each piece that it's an insult to those who made the game if you were to say it's not because they spent hours and days for just simple things and then there's putting it all together with so many different backgrounds and in the games where you can change a characters clothing they also have to draw the extra clothing an it takes months to get it drawn out and the colors so it's complicated and before going onto a computer where it is animated it's all done by hand, the hands of very skill and creative people with big imaginations. The artist's put their hearts into it for us so games are definitly art

Yes. Visual displays, mechanics, and storytelling weaved together to form an interactive media form; if you ask me, a person who suggests that video games are not art could say the same for music, cinema, or any other type of art.

if expensive and useless then it is art

Books are art, are they not? They are both useful(in an emotional sense) and cheap (libraries XD, and even not they are like what, $50 tops?)A game isn't art, only GOOD games are. However, what makes a GOOD game is in the eyes of the beholder, therefore they are much like art in that sense. (Runways have some of the ugliest clothes, but they are still art to some people XD)

i was reading my game informer tonight and article in has lines from thoughts from the past issues. and one is by kideo kojima saying that he believes that games are not art and well never be art. i what to hear your comments and see your thoughts on the matter!. plus also say what games should be considered artwork! i say most of the Mario games as how far the plumber has gone and changed the gaming worlds (thought this was the best place to place one of it sorry if not)

well i think art can be anything depending on the person XD because to some people they say that drawing a art and some think that people posing is a art but personally i don't think art even exist it just a way of getting money for doing nothing real.so i agree that it is an art

They're absolutely art. Video games have digital art, graphic design, animation, writing, music, and more.

Yes because it entertains people and if there are different parts to the game, its like a abstract piece of art, it would keep you wondering.

It's considered an art in my opinion. It's just it's a different kind of art.Paintings are considered art can be classified into Visual Art.Books and other forms of literature are also art.Buildings and architecture are also art.So if we are talking about games then it's art too. The process and the effort (including the people who are thinking about profit only) of the people who make them make it art too.(you can also include H games too, since it's art too.)

Games have visual displays, can be apealing and very entertaining. They even have a story line, and pictures(graphic, etc) . They take a lot of work and effort.

I DEFINITELY think so. Not only is it graphically an art- pixel sprites and polygons, etc. but the mathematics behind it is so... beautiful. If it can't be called an art, then nothing can.

Some games should be...the ones with stories you really remember. Chrono Trigger for example.

I definitely think so. Art provokes emotion and thought, and video games clearly bring that out. At least, to me.

Bringing up this his lovely little debate nugget is always cruise control for cool.Games have the potential to be art. Whether a particular game fulfills that potential, or if it even should, needs to be discussed on a game-by-game basis.

Absolutely games should be considered art! "Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect." This is Wikipedia's definition of art. There are several ways in which games can fall into this category. How many of us have been effected emotionally by the death of a beloved character in a video game? How many of us have found ourselves secretly urging them on to victory, sometimes without realizing we are doing it? Symbolism is rampant in video games, and while sometimes it is simplistic and can be understood on the instinctual level, often it is rather obscure and must be understood through the intellect. While video games currently do not influence our senses of smell or touch, they are unarguably interacting with our sense of sight and sound. If music on a CD can be considered an art form, why can't music designed for video games?http://www.gamespy.c.../1103298p1.htmlThis link is to GameSpy's article detailing the fact that even Roger Ebert, the acclaimed and widely respected film critic, admits that at least for some video games can be art.My last point I would like to make is that video games as a form should, perhaps, be considered more of an art form than something such as paintings or sculpture due to one simple facet, their interactivity. Art that involves you directly and lets you help to decide how it plays out should be given more respect than art that does not take the viewer into consideration as anything more than a passive observer. at least that is my opinion.

Well i was debating this with my classmate a few years back about this. Well games has a lot of character and art work in it. It should be consider art because people admire art and in games you can admire a character. So ya i believe games are consider art.

yes, because it requires a degree in 3d graphic and design (which are art degrees)and like an artist, many coders/designers put their time and effort, and sometimes their sweat, blood and tears (figuratively) to make these games
