if you imagine how much time, work and devotion is dedicated to producing games there is no point speaking against calling videogames art. everything that is enjoyed by the public can be called art. games are no exception for this

It think it depends on how you look at the situation. Many games are shat out similarly to how movies are, and it's globally accepted that movies are an art form, so I don't see why another multimedia format wouldn't be considered an art form, even if things are often shat out by many of these companies (I'm pointing to you "Call of Duty" 4 and up, alongside the numerous F.P.S. games which are merely clones of one another. That reminds me; in an age where everyone has the tendency to whine "RIP-OFF" at the mere sight of something being remotely similar to something else, even if it's some kind of homage to the original, why don't people bash more of these companies for all basically making the same game? I'm confused. Then again, I'm not an F.P.S. fan.).
I think games are art-forms if they're made well and actually incorporate a concern for the art style used.
OP: Did you mean Hideo Kojima? That sounds like something he'd say, because he's a horrible hypocrite, given his intended career awas to be a film-maker. Having failed that, he just wants to bask in something he doesn't consider art, even though he countered that argument be saying at the end that games use artistic qualities to them for stylization.
It's a shame that he apparently belittles his career so much. He's done great things. Then, he opened his mouth.
I will agree that the gaming industry has been bastardized, if that's what is implied by his statements, but then again... The only real arts, then, would be SOME independent films, SOME books, and only again SOME paintings, because games, music, and film do their best to appease large quantities of people, for the most part (I know there are exceptions to this). His definition is poor, and it sounds to be informed by ignorance and little else.
On the other hand I have to wonder: If I mutilate someone's body to reflect my heart or my feelings, and someone appreciates it, does that make it art?

Art is something you percieve in your own eyes. I think hip-hop is not art, but other forms of music are a form of art. If you think games aren't art, I wouldn't agree with you but I'd let you believe yourself.

Video games as an art form is getting closer. It is really difficult to take a game as a whole and say that it is art, though there are numerous examples of certain aspects of games being art. Anyone that pays attention to storytelling in games probably has a couple of examples of games that really moved them. For me, the stories in Final Fantasy X, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Shadow of the Collosus were incredible. Graphics are another place that can be looked at for its art. Games such as Flower, Bioshock, and Journey.
I think that games can be taken as art for specific aspects, but they are not quite there to be art in their own right.
