I'm trying to look for good books, good fanfiction, good original works, and good mangas because I'm having quite a hard time of finding new, good ones that are worth my time. Usually, I'm just reading fanfiction under the Naruto or Harry Potter category and it's getting boring as there is nothing new. I've not much luck in finding good books and I'm rather afraid of spending money on something that, upon reading, turns out to be worthless or boring.So.Hm, let me start off with a suggestion from my friend. She says 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' is a good book -funny, fast paced and is an easy read. Also, Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games is pretty interesting. Same with Ellen Hopkins' Impulse, Burned and Crank books. Although, I'm not too sure about what the latter ones are about.Another friend suggests Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I want to read this book. It's about this girl who leaves tapes of thirteen reasons as to why she committed suicide and these tapes fall into the hands of... someone whose name I can't remember. But, anyway, the reasons start off simple but as it nears the last reason it becomes graver, heavier. Gripping and rather frightening, according to my friend. I also suggest M or F by Lisa Papademetriou - it's a light read, it's funny and it's fast paced. As for fanfiction, well, I'm into yaoi, KH, Naruto, DN and FMA. If you are too, I suggest you read Detrimental Benefits [narugaa] by Dreaming-of-a-Nightmare. Also, When the Circus Came to Town by Mad-TopHat-Ter which is an AkuRoku fic (KH).Mangas.. Well, Naruto. :o) The latest chapters are uhh-maaaazing. Crimson Spell is nice too, that is, if you're into Yaoi. If not, leave it be because it's not for kids. :P Like, NOT for kids. It's rather... visual. Err, anywaaaaaaaaay. Bleach, Soul Eaters are two other great series.

I would recommend the Alex Rider series(Anthony Horowitz), The Power of Five series(Anthony Horowitz) and the Magician series(Trudi Canavan). The books by Anthony Horowitz lean more to controversy and mystery, while Trudi Canavan's is more to adventure.PS: You could go look at Book Recommendations. In fact, some smartass could report you for making a duplicate, albeit with a different title. But this topic may be legal. Who knows?

Wow, those are the last three series i have read, and you are the first person i have ever seen that has read the magician series. That's crazy cause they are really good books. Anyway back to suggestions: If you liked harry potter i would definitely suggest the bartimaeus trilogy by jonathon stroud. It came out around the same time as HP but was overlooked, but they are really good books with some really good and strong plots and caracters. I also have to second the quoted person's suggestion of the magician series as it falls within the same genre as HP and is just as good in my opinion.

I recommend the manga Dolls by naked ape. It is an extremely great read. King of Thorns is another good one if you haven't read it already.

i found an interesting fantasy [Original] Fiction thing on fictionpress you can look it up i think it was called Tales of Dragonia or something? its by an amateur but i thought it was quite interesting. Contrary to its name the Storyline does not contain any dragons...if you are looking for something popular you should look for the under-rated Wheel of Time (Epic) by the deceased Robert Jordan, it was not finished when he died but another author is finishing it [last i checked it spanned 12 books ; very large one btw] IMHO it is better and more "Epic" than the lord of the rings. :(

I have acquired more suggestions.Books: Vampire Academy Series; it's pretty much a good book, a swirl of genres. I recommend it if you like books like 'City of Bones/City of Ashes/City of Glass'.Fanfiction: Check out Finalage's fanfictions; I'm pretty sure he posted it somewhere or you could ask him.Mangas: Rosary + Vampire; it's something similar to Vampire Academy.

for a book series i would suggest the old kingdom by garth nix. it includes Sabriel, Lirael, and the Abhorsen. its can excellent easy read thats a more darker side to a fantasy world filled with magic! Oh and Tamora Pierce's book series Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen is pretty awesome fantasy read too :gs:For a good manga series i really suggest that you read nodame Cantabile! its a Josei about music, obsessive stalkerish love and filled with many comedic moments(the anime and live action series are also great!)Another series thats pretty good that i've been following is Dance! Subaru. Its a drama, seinen, tragic sorta story line about a girls life and how dance effects it. It takes a while to get used to the art but you learn to love it! Oh death note is also a good manga thats a bit darkish...well a lot darkish :haha:

It depends on what kind of genres you're interested in :sly: I mean I'd recommend Artemis Fowl except it's kind of targeted at a younger audience (well, I'm pretty much still mentally a child haha)But yes, Garth Nix is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. not only the old kingdom series mentioned by rednotes but also the keys to the kingdom series (i.e. mister monday, grim tuesday...)And ever tried Dan Brown? :( I loved Angels and Demons, it's freaky enough for me.

Also, Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games is pretty interesting. Same with Ellen Hopkins' Impulse, Burned and Crank books. Although, I'm not too sure about what the latter ones are about.

Well, I think I've read those three books by Ellen Hopkins. They're books in verse (like poetry) about three different girls who face three different "issues". You'll find out about them as you read. I believe that Crank is the first one to be published and has a sequel, something along the lines of "Walking with the Monster". I can't tell you who it's about because that would spoil Crank. They're definitely worth reading and they're relatively easy to read. They're not as long as they seem because of the space between the lines used to shape to verses. The books make you think a lot about these issues, and they're not as "drug/alcohol/life-story-pain-experience lesson"-like as they sound.

As for fanfiction, well, I'm into yaoi, KH, Naruto, DN and FMA. If you are too, I suggest you read Detrimental Benefits [narugaa] by Dreaming-of-a-Nightmare. Also, When the Circus Came to Town by Mad-TopHat-Ter which is an AkuRoku fic (KH).

Well, I know that someone already recommended KHR! before, (Katekyo Hitman Reborn!), so have you read it? Depending on your pairing choice, I know a few good fics. I can send a list that's a bit too long to sort through right now, but at least half are Varia-centric and probably not of interest if you aren't a fan of them.

if it comes to manga, i recommend samurai deeper kyo (interesting story tho a bit cheesy... but then again a lotta manga are). also gto early years: shonan junai gumi. or the world only god knows. basically all my recommendations are shonen.for books, read jim butcher's dresden files. the first in the dresden series is called storm front. it's like a cooler harry potter in detective form. pretty good read. hmm that's all i can think of for now

For books, I recommend:Across the nightingale floor / Lian HearnThe house of the scorpion / Nancy FarmeTalking to Blue / Ken CatranPendragon [series] / D.J. MacHaleAmerican Gods / Neil GaimanThe Looking Glass Wars / Frank BeddorJust for a start, then for manga...I'm not much of a yaoi fan, but Loveless was pretty interesting, if you can get past the initial shallowness it seems to portray. Most of CLAMP's manga is interesting and often includes yaoi pairings (or at least heavy hints of them, and pairings are much more fun when they aren't being shoved down your throat); X/1999 and Legal Drug are examples. Also try: Amatsuki, Bleach, Dogs, Yotsubato!, Noblesse

For books, if you're into old times with kings and queens and the like, but with much more of a plot than that, I suggest the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. Personally, that's one of my favorite series. I, too, like Hunger Games. Some books I've read also include the Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima, The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, Incarceron by Catherine Fisher, Airman by Eoin Colfer, the Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, and Eragon by Christopher Paolini. Some mangas that are Shounen that I personally love include D. Gray-Man, a must-read, Naruto, Pandora Hearts, Zombie Loan, Bleach, Fairy Tail, Loveless, and Air Gear.

Well.. if I started recommending manga.. I'd list too many prob. Though if I were able to narrow it down to genre it'd be easier XDThough if you're into yaoi.. the latest one I've been reading is Kimi Note. If you like yaoi fanfiction.. Then I'd recommend reading Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Prince of Tennis. It's just way too easy to pair the guys in here |DIf you've read these then I recommend reading the fanfiction 'Flames of Family' (KHR): It's a really long one. Has about 5 parts now I guess? Total chapter count would probably be around the 300 or so now?For Prince of Tennis well.. I love many of these. Though this one has more awesome crack fics. Like 'a 100 things you should not do in Hyotei'. Though I probably have to say that one of my top favorites is 'Remote'. Has a sequel as well and makes parodies of other things. Sort of. Characters are spread to different universes and they have complete missions and stuff to get to the next one. They have to collect everyone before they get home bla bla bla. Sounds cliche, has cliche things in there as well. But that's what I love about it. They sort of make fun of those cliche things |DAbout books.. well.. Read Chronicles of Narnia yet? Heard that the Artemis Fowl series is good too. I myself am still searching for the second part of Inkheart. Though that was a book I read years ago and I have not found the other ones yet. (Or I have but didn't have money then.)Hope that I was of any help.

I'm going to recommend fanfiction, specifically on the anime Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha.Currently there are three MLGN writers whom I really admire, which I will link them below some of their best works.Lose by Holding Back, You Never Lose by Loving and Prerogative of the Brave are connected series written by deathcurse, describing Vivio's journey to woo Hayate off her feet. Jokes aside, as usual I just can't write a suitable synopsis for this author, you'll just have to read it by yourselves to understand how amazing a writer she is. Claims to major in tragedy, but in my opinion she could write any genre just as well. When I Think About Flying by Shigan, a One Shot that takes us through Fate's journey as she goes through childhood, friendship, love, marriage and motherhood. Epic word length and story, a must read if you're a fan.And on to my favorite author, Extrinsical. She has never failed to amaze me with her writing. If deathcurse is clear perfection, Shigan funny and daringly cautious, then Extrinsical's would be the epitome of feelings and emotion. No one has top her place in my scale, and only hers I would not substitute with my own synopsis. The Blue Sky. Takamachi Nanoha was someone who belonged to the sky. Post StrikerS, One Shot.Circuit Clout. In a time where Fate did not become an enforcer but a convict-turned-civilian collaborator. A world where TSAB is forgiving, but not forgiving enough to let ex-convicts into its organization. This is how her path was re-shaped. One Shot.

Books: The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. It's sort of the literary equivalent of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.A Dance of Dragons by George R. R. Martin. Think LOTR, but with more action. And incest. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. It's the best satirical fiction I've read. Fanfiction: The Game of the Gods by Limyaael. It's a great example of why Sues and Stus are horrible.Noise of Regalement by The Light's Refrain. A bit spoilery for TWEWY, but it's a great read.Persona 3: Fairly English Story by SamJaz. It starts out as a retelling of Persona 3 with the MC as an Englishman, but things quickly become more awesome. Much more awesome. Manga: Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. Seriously, it's amazing. The characters are really well-written, stuff gets crazy, and the villains are all you could want.Gimmick! by Youzaburou Kanari and Kuroko Yabuguchi. It's a manga about movies, specifically SFX. The main character uses Hollywood SFX techniques to solve real-world problems. And for pranks.Yu Yu Hakusho by Yoshihiro Togashi. It's pretty much the quintessential shonen manga.AKIRA by Katsuhiro Otomo. It's about kids with psychic powers after the near-destruction of Tokyo and actual destruction of Neo-Tokyo. A lot better than it sounds.Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki. Lots of body horror and weird fight scenes.

You heard right. The Artemis Fowl series is a great read about a criminal mastermind who is only 11 years old and had planned the greatest heist in stealing the fairy race's Gold. Possibly you can think of this as a pg-13 version of death note. Another series I recommend is the Percy Jackson series. First of all, forget the movie. You'll be surprised by what they didn't include from the 1st book. It's got everything you ever wanted in an american shonen novel. Character Development, interesting plots and epic battles. Both series are available by the way for the DS. We also have the roms for them here. I'll post there links below: http://www.dgemu.com...ps-Artemis-Fowlhttp://www.dgemu.com...s-Percy-Jackson
