I've been playing a lot of RPGs lately, and I always end up choosing the turn-based function if it's available because I don't like being under pressure to make a combat decision.Do you prefer turn-based games, like the old Final Fantasies, or a faster-paced active control like Kingdom Hearts? And given the choice, do you choose turn-based, or do you let it play out?Post your opinion/questions/comments/concerns! Thx ;3

although i love the FF franchise for both the in-depth stories as well as the battle mechanics, i would love to see them turn away from their traditional turn-based format and, at least once, incorporate the real-time scheme as in the KH series. just imagine being cloud and swinging your huge @ss buster sword with the press of a few buttons and pwning sephiroth into nothing.

Turn-based is the way to go, in my opinion. ^^; For the reason you mentioned - less pressure to make decisions - and because it rewards strategy and planning, instead of giving the victory to the best button masher, or the one who can memorize the most combos, or whatnot. And of course, I enjoy a good story far more than a 'kill everyone' type game. *grins* Something with a real plot, and real character interactions.

I would choose active play if it's like kingdom hearts. If it's not, then I'd choose turn-based.Active play only for kingdom hearts.

Very Good

I used to think turn based was the best. However, I've played games like Kingdom Hearts, Sword of Mana (GBA) and Shining Soul (GBA) and I think those are really good. I really think RPGs with an active style of play is very cool. Turn based is good but it can get quite monotonous especially once you discover a really powerful combination to defeat all enemies in every single battle like the 1MP cost ability with Ultima magic. Then you're kinda doing the same thing all the time. With active, it's not much like that. However, I still love both of them, probably Active type a bit more.

I think turn based is still really cool for the FF series because like it like gives you like a timer so it's not liek you can sit there all day planning your movess you have to hurry so it is like a rule not like active play you can do whatever and actually you can really only like control one person at a time really so you don't feel as attached to a team and really i think like RPG gameplay isn't really captured except by like turn based playing because it's way too complicated.

I like both types, but definitely prefer turn-based gameplay. Active play is better if you want to finish battles quickly or you like elements of hack n slash, but as people here have mentionned I don't like being under pressure to make decisions, or being unable to cancel huge mistakes.

I don't think it matters. What really matters to me is that the story is boss.

I'm very open on my type of RPG's I love playing final fantasy and chrono trigger but after I play for awhile i get bored ... fast especially in the FF series not to mention annoyed with the random battles. That's when star ocean come into play. In my eyes an RPG is best played in a variety of ways.

I think Kingdom Hearts is a bad example. Why? Because it was awesome, and is very hard to say I dislike the system. Turn-based only works if you are refering to the Blue Dragon/ FF10 system, and maybe the Dragon Quest/Earthbound/Golden Sun system. If you mean the bar-based play of FF2, 7, 9, ect, I'd say no, because I despise that system, and think that Chrono Trigger is the only game that did it right. So given those misgivings I'd have to say both and remain neutral. :good:

I hate turn based games, I like active gameplay because it requires experience to get better. Turn based games are way to easy in my opinion, and you only learn from loosing and in active play you loose more.

I really like both of them. But it wouldn`t hurt to experiment with different battle systems.

I prefer active play, it may put you under a bit of pressure of what to choose and what to do but it makes the game more exciting in my opinion :3

Turn based can be nice for strategy games, but the failing point of it comes when it makes you wait an overly long period of time. I tried playing FFXII the other day, and the amount of time given between attacks was just a killer for me. I was getting bored.Overall I think I like active play more.

Turn-based and active play strategy games are based upon different types of strategies. I think that it is turn-based can be incrementally increased in difficultly whereas the difficulty threshold for active play gets lost in having to press buttons in increased complexity as opposed to strategy. That is why I choose turn-based strategy games.

Turn-based, because I don't operate well under pressure (or at least I convince myself that), and I'm horrible at micromanaging, which RTS's tend to be fond of for some reason. However, there are exceptions if I'm intrigued by the game world. :)
