I agree that was probably the best part of the game i wasn't expecting that the creator of Mario would even let someone die in the game.I like the first time in the game you drop Bowser into the lava and he pops out for a second and he's a skeleton!I was like "Mario actually killed Bowser this time! Straight Murdered him! OMG!
I think that was probably my favorite part.

I finally got 100% and learned how to use the code to play as Luigi. Even though this game doesn't give you the ability to fly or all the hype that surrounded its sequels with the return of the Koopalings, it still holds its own and plays really well. Even though I just beat New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS recently I went back to play this again and still had a great time. I think the lack of Mario's flight powerups ended up not being as big of a deal when this came out because it did give Mario his wall kick from Super Mario 64 and triple jump from Donkey Kong ('94). Something he never had in a standard sidescrolling platformer before. I also think they were trying to make it more like the first Super Mario Bros. as it was their idea for a rebirth of the classic style after nothing but 3D and remakes for 10 years. Now that this game is approaching 7 years of age, it's actually quite amazing it is still in print and not surprising that it has 3 sequels now.

I sadly never had it, but I did get Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS and I thought it was amazing how once you beat the game, you could go through it all again with Luigi except levels were a bit harder and switched up a bit.
