I may be considered an older gamer...over 30 and I have an original DS. Had this since early in the relase cycle. Although it's had several case changes (the ever-so-familiar broken hinge syndrome) and touch screen changes, it seems once I get into a game it doesn't matter that I don't have the latest hardware improvements. Needless to say, there is a sentimental bond with this machine.Although it's held up pretty good, some problems are starting to show on the touch screen again. If I run my stylus across the bottom of the touch screen, it arcs about 10% from the bottom near the middle of the pass and drops back down at the other end. This toucjh screen has been replaced twice, and I've had this problem before, but didn't know if it was less to do with the touch screen and more to do with hardware the is beyond my capability to replace or repair. The touch screen that is in there now was just replaced about 2 1/2 months ago.Is anyone aware of a calibration app for this touch screen that would allow for intermediate calibration points (besides the corners), is it just the screen, which I can get awway with for $3 bucks and some wait time for a Hong Kong shipment. When should it be time to consider a new machine?
When to upgrade DS?

If I where you I would probably upgrade to a new DS, but not the DSi I don't see the point in it, the camera on it is junk all I find useful on it is the web browser which you can find a homebrew for if you no where to look. Also I don't think there is a calibration app out there. If I where you I would get a DS lite or fix yours up and wait until they have a DS worth upgrading to.( not the DSi XL either )

i dont rly think DSi is that special i mean, just because it has a camera (the biggest new interface), doesnt mean its a really cool console
, thats why im alright with my normal DS

I think u shold get a pre-owned ds lite, it is relevantly cheap and DSi is in my opinion just a ns lite with a camera.L8r maybe u can get the 3ds when it comes out in?

If you use your original DS to play GBA games and you don't own a GBA, I'd say get a new DS Lite so that it will still last a long time to come. Otherwise, get a used DS Lite as you won't need it for as long, considering the upcoming 3DS. It should come out next year (though we're not getting very clear information on that yet) and it should be backwards compatible with DS games, but it won't have a GBA slot.In general, I'd say upgrade when the new system has features you just have to have. The DSi? Nothing there that really attracted my interest, and it dropped the GBA slot, so I passed on it. The 3DS? The so-far released features do grab my interest, so I will certainly be upgrading this time.

I'd recommend a DS lite, even used. I'm not sold on spending the extra money on a DSi's features. Heck if you wanted to you could go for the DSi XL, which would give you a lot more screen room. It comes down to personal preference as to if you're willing to spend the extra bit on the features or not.
