VIII for sure...And IV closely follows...But when talking about the greatest RPG I'd say Chrono Trigger...

I think we should notice that there are two kind of Final Fantasy games: the main ones (FF, FFII, FFIII, FFIV and so on) and the rest Final Fantasy related games (Tactics. Cristal Chronicles, etc).

Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy, the only way Tactics is in a "different" category than the rest of the Final Fantasies is that its way better than the rest.

How am I the only one who thinks Tactics was and always will be the best FF ever?

You're not; personally I thought Tactics was the best just because how it combined the elements of RPG and strategy games togther. The only flaw I really thought it had was that there was only one real sidequest, and there should have been more branching out in the job classes (for example, getting to a Lv. 8 Knight gets you the Knight Blade class). Instead there were all these cool classes you couldn't get unless you had Gameshark.

1. The Strategy concept is freaking awesome, I believe that if they released another, it would sell extremely well, just think of it... FFT II2. There are several Side Quests; Worker 8, Cloud, the Dragon Lady (I forget her name) ect.3. Lol @ the c00l job classes thing, the job classes you can get drom gameshark, are player specific jobs, like Aeris is a Holy Knight, and all that bs...4. Yea, the more complex jobs would be awesome, but just think, they left that open for another FFT, I think we should all mail/e-mail Square-Enix and tell them they should definetely release another FFTAnybody with me!?

Dude, I love FFT. I just wanted to point out that I don't consider it a "real" FF game (same goes for other titles like X2), but that's just my opinion...

A story makes an rpg and that is what FFX had. Graphics are just naturally there. The story made me forget how bad the characters where(Auron is still a badass though)What is the whole bishuthing cuz i don't know. I need to know why you hate the games for such a reason. As for the whole "I can't believe you people think" thing, its the same damm thing with FF7. It's not the greatest game ever. The reason it's immortalized in gold is the fact that it was thier first rpg. They complain when it's not their precious FF7 and dismiss the earlier FFs as crap since it isn't FF7. Some people consider other Rpgs crap since it isn't FF7. Cloud wasn't that great, he was your first hero and you consider him what other characters should be.

FFX didn't had a decent story. Soon in the game it would be more like Tidus's obsession with Yuna, and later, the whole love conflit, with Seymour in it. As in story I mean something decent that can make you impressed (at least I wasn't very impressed with FFX story, and I know most people aren't, at least most gamers who played games years ago and still do). And you pointed yet another problem with FFX: characters. I have to agree how horrible FFX characters are, for they are most like a clay doll that was thrown in, than a character that really is a character, that has a life on it's own, even if it's all virtual.I have to be sincere that Final Fantasy VII is my favourite, for I like confusing things and with always multiple meanings, but this is just a preference. Final Fantasy VI is, by far, the best Final Fantasy ever made, and probably wont ever be defeated, because it is a masterpiece: really great story and plot; awesome characters; a villain that IS actually a villain (not like sissy badass wanabee Sephiroth or plain dumb as Kuja or Seymour).About "bishouju" and "bishounen", I believe I got the words correctly. They stand for "pretty boy" and "pretty girl" in Japan. Basicly a bishouju is a guy who looks more like a girl, and has no "human" in it because they are as perfect as a silicon doll. As for girls, same thing, authentic perfect dolls. When games had those big headed characters, it was more into a fantastic world with unrealistic characters. In Final Fantasy you have beautiful people, which goes far away from fantasy and goes into reality. Resuming: the more realistic things are, strangly, the more cold emotions are, and characters loose their personality. If it's all cartoon based, you feel like those characters are more into a fantasy world with imaginary things, being more closer to the tradition RPG aspect.About Final Fantasy, the good thing is that they still have imaginary characters, which balances things a bit. If a RPG has characters that are basicly humans, and only characters like this, most gamers lose interest, for it ends up being "monotonous".

For the sake of marketing Square Enix can put "Final Fantasy" on any of their games just to increase the sales, like they did on those Final Fantasy Legend games for the GameBoy. Now FFT is an awesome game, but why use FF on the title? It does have some FF charachters, but so does Kingdom Hearts. To be a "real" (again, this just my opinion) FF games there's a lot more. Let's take for example now all those FFVII spin off games. They all have "FFVII" on the titles, but there's only one real FFVII. I hope this clarifies a little my ideas.

Aggh!!!!!!!!!  I was having an inner conflict with myself over whether to vote FFX or FFVII.  So I just went for 10 because of its interesting way of developing your charactersand its amazing graphics. But I agree with decamij, there are way too many polls on the best FF ever.

how could there be too many polls? i asked what was the best Final Fantasy of all time! OF ALL TIME!!! Thats all of em! Geeze... and besides, when i made this poll, i didnt see one of the same type, i saw the best final fantasy character, or the best recent FF game, but not the best FF game of all time!

FF-X is the best man, the sphere grid is a really innovative way of developing your characters rather than the old 'level up learn new moves' method, the graphics are awesome and unchallenged by any other RPG, the story is epic and emmersing, and the game is challenging and has all of the hardcore FF elements and also adds some new things to the series.

I found tactics became a little too repeatative after a while. Yes other final fantasy games have the same concept of battling a lot just for training, but there were large gaps when u would do mini quests that involved solving puzzles, and not battling. with tactics, sure there were be a couple side quests, but ya end up doin the same battle, against the same group of enemies, maybe with the odd one or two different, but it would still be a battle that takes minutes to do. and there is a FFT 2, its just not called 2, instead its called Tactics Advanced, using the same style of battle, and the small but still in there, story line.

X is the best, no question

I agree with that cause it has the best graphics, a good battle system, nice movies, good gameplay and the best minigame(blitzball). Ff7 is also good but overall i think x is the best.
