Well some games like brain training help you're brain but some games that are very repetitive and are very addictive can harm you a bit but most games either help with some maths like pokemon eg, buying stuff from the pokemon mart but some helps widen the grammer that you use. Some also test out your stratigic part of your brain like final fantasy deciding a suitible stratery in the task in hand

I've played video games since I was very young and I've always held that it depends entirely on the games you play and how you play them. Most games have some aspect of strategy, and by focusing on that and trying to problem-solve within the reference of a game you can certainly exercise your brain while playing. People playing bejeweled and icy tower and stuff like that, though (FARMVILLE) seem to have pretty rotted brains, IMO.

They said the same thing about TV and Music. I only blame the parents that refuse to take responsibility and look for things to blame instead.

it really depends on how much time you spend playing video games >.>, if you spend over 50% of your time playing them, the of course your gonna be a little firetrucked up in the head (see SMOSH for reference) but if you can learn to control and manage your time then youll be find and you can actually learn some nifty stuff from video games like err uhh, how not to drive on the side walk while driving a car mabye? :weep:

I will say in general games are not very good for you. But in little way are they bad. This mostly depends on the games you play though. A puzzle game would certainly be better than an rpg. And a flashing screen game would be bad for your eyes most likely.Yes you can learn random trivia from games, like (not enough sleep to think of a good example) caterpillars go into a cocoon. But that is hardly a reason to say games are good for you. At the same time it is a hobby to take up time. As long as you get your tasks done, it is fine I think. And it is not like drinking beers while watching a football game is better.

games improve brain function, unless it's a senseless shooter or something, because you have to think out everything.

When most of the people who bad mouth video games picture a game in their heads they picture games like grand theft auto or other controversial games, why? because those are the games that get the most attention from some of the more conservative consumers.

Old people don't seem to know what Sudoku is then. EEH? EEH? Anyone? HIGH FIVE. The fact that there's actually a term for 'educational games' shows that it's decent in healthy doses. I wonder how much people out there say video games are bad and also smoke?

sudoku has actually been advocated by psychologists in memory improvement. basically the theory is that any activity that requires vastly different forms of thinking from normal brain processes will improve your memory by creating new neuron connections. psychologists also promote crossword puzzles for memory enhancement. while, ironically, the educational game genre has been proven in studies to not improve brain functioning at all. people who played educational games such as brain age and big brain academy on a daily basis for several months did not score any higher on scholastic tests—they only scored higher in the minigames within those educational games. so it seems the only worth educational games like big brain academy have is in sudoku, which can slightly improve memory over time. better to learn a new language if you're looking for brain enhancement....but games aren't bad for the brain. they're only bad cuz they waste time, taking away from activities that could educate. but no cell-killing or anything like that. anyway, playing games is still better than watching tv, which barely stimulates the brain at all thus leading to cell loss

If you want a somewhat educational game, play the MGS series. Real life events and sci fi merge to make a very amusing story. MGS 3 does this the best I think.

Games are actually a bit healthier for you than just sitting down and watching TV. Video Games stimulate you a lot more because you're actually interacting with stuff and not just watching brainlessly. XDAnd hey, depending on the game you can learn stuff and challenge your brain (Can you say Puzzle games?). :3

people say that games are bad for you XD and that they rot your brain cells and other things like that but are they really that bad

People tend to exaggerate but, there is a reason why people say that video games are bad for you. It does in fact reduce the amount of vocabulary type retention because, your brain tries to remember things more exciting experiences and video games are more of an instant gratification than reading or something of that nature. With that said, I and most of my friends have played video games for most of our lives and most of us have a 3.3 GPA or better. So it really comes down to discipline in my opinion.

I really think that gamers have much more rich vocabulary than other people. Games have so many different items and characters that people who don't play them never really encounter. Plus back in the day we had to read everything in games. they were like damn novels sometimes.
