games really influence your mental states but it doesn't produce very big damages, games could take you to become a non-viewer XDbut if you responsable you play games in a fixed time

Games cant be bad for you since as children we play games to learn new motive skills and better our hand-eye coordination skills and sometimes it can even sharpen our senses depending on the situation or place or type of game.

It all depends on the person... like me, the reason I've started gaming is to improve my English with FF3,4 n 5...

Games are only bad if you let them influence you too much. (I.E. thinking picking up a gun and killing everyone is cool... is not cool)

I learned from runescape that tin + copper = bronze (when I was seven)I learned from Spore a CRAPLOAD about stars, which I'm fascinated by.I learned from Assassin's creed Brotherhood about the Borgia and the other "real" characters in the game.My facorite game, though, is Fallout New Vegas... SO good.

my dad always lecture me every day about how they rot your brain but i think that they give you and idea about how games work and it improves your reaction time a little more then an average person.for example if you are about to get hit by a car, if you have never played video games you might die because when you see the car you wont have enough time to jump out of the waywhile if you did play video games you will see the car and maybe avoid it or not get hurt as bad. even a second counts when in a life and death situation

You know, there is good and bad in gaming. The old saying all things in moderation really comes true here. If one games just for leisure, and knows when to quit, he will be fine. Otherwise, they become bad for you. Aside from the physical of too much gaming (like weight gain), there is the death of a social life that was once had.

Games let you think outside the box to solve problems. And of course, it increases your hand-eye coordination. And there are educational games out there with great gameplay like Professor Layton. But too much gaming is a problem and can cut into your time doing other productive things.

I totally agree. Some games are educational, anyway, and like Wii Sports, they can even help you exercise. I recently read an excerpt from a book, and it says that games may be making a better world. It certainly helps me when I'm stressed out, anyway. I agree with many of you, too; in strategic games, you need to think, and you make the choices of your character, whether good or bad, in a role playing game.

gaming helps you relax.. after a stressful week in school, you either want to grab a beer or play some games to chill. doing both actually makes it even more awesome.

Games are like alcohol. It's good for you in moderation. It' also like television, it's bad for you if you reject physical activities for the whole day thus degenerating your body.

Of course they're not. Some games are good for motor skills, others flex your brain and the odd one that has a truely great story is as good as a decent novel. Also, some games are just pure rubbish. A small minority of people can be negatively affected by games, but the same can be said of all media. Marylin Manson has been victimised before and Catcher in the Rye supposedly influenced Mark Chapman's decision to kill John Lennon.

I've seen a lot of research articles on both sides of the debate. Logically speaking, I think saying games are the cause of problems is ridiculous. It's the whole "Correlation does not imply causation" thing. Although there even being a correlation is up for debate. I think something a teacher of mine said once put it best "Do you think that if some kids decide to go out and shoot people, and happen to have played violent video games, that there just *might* have been something else wrong with them other than a video game?".

Games are bad only if you take them to the extreme, but that's obvious (to most at least). I've always found it perplexing how parents do say that games are bad and how they've damaged their kids and what have you. It's pathetic if you think about it, but most of these parents often tend to just let their kids play any video game without any form of supervision, neglecting their duties and responsibilities with an inanimate object that inadvertently ends up substituting them. This topic often reminds me of how people say music has corrupted the youth.Society always pinning the blame on something other than itself.

people say that games are bad for you :( and that they rot your brain cells and other things like that but are they really that bad

Yes and No. YES: They can distract us from doing our responsibilities and school work and possibly spending time with family.NO: Some games depending on what they are can help sharpen the mind, and possibly hand eye coordination. For instance look at brain age games, and games that you have to follow fast moving objects. Games people use to escape things possibly around them depending on what it is(kind of like what I do with music.. ALL THE TIME). It makes us learn or helps us learn how to solve things as well depending on the game(Bejeweled, Soduku, bloodrayne 2, some pokemon games<silver, gold in the unknown taverns or to get to the gym leader...> etc. I think at this point you all get my point. LOL

Videogames don't rot your brain, The stuff that does are drugs and alcohol. And smoking, Too. It's just retarded on how people spew that junk out of their mouth's. SPECIALLY the people that did a drive-by after playing GTA: San Andreas. The parent's of the teen's said that it was because of the violent videogames.. No, It wasn't the game.. It was because they got the idea from the game. Now, I'm not trying to bash the gamer's or anything (I have played the games in the GTA series myself). I'm just stating that they got the idea from the game.
