Surprisingly my L button was broken out of the box, well not necessarily broken just wasn't working unless you fist pumped it as hard as you could but some games need you to use that button and that sucks.

I used to work at a game store and we saw people come in with this problem a lot. Unfortunately there's not much you can do for it, we usually just sent it back to Nintendo to get it fixed. I've never broken a button before, but I have had trouble with them getting sticky.

I broke my L button because i accidentally droppped it. it was a good thing that only the button was broken. not the system itself.

Yes, the L and R buttons are arguably the most faulty thing about the NDS series, I had a DSPhat and got rid of it after the L button failed. Then when I bought my DSi I attempted to fix it and took the whole damn thing apart, now it's just bits and peices. Luckily my DSiXL is still fine, no isseus with the L and R whatsoever. And I'm praying that my 3DS survives...

Not only did the R button retract into the controller, the right side of my controller ceased to function afterwards... Never have I nerd-raged so hard over something! :D

No but I dropped my DS in sand and the L and R buttons are both kind of gritty.

I dropped my DS on a cold hard floor once and the entire L button was smashed into pieces. Had to glue it back together when I got back home, but it works fine now.

Both of mine broke on my DS lite, and on my DSi, just the R button.

I've never broken my L and R buttons, but my "A" button is acting a little funny. It responds perfectly, but isn't as "springy" as the other B,X,and Y buttons.

Everyone tends to break their Ls and Rs from time to time, most likely when the system is held in a pocket. Therefore, I always get one of those wallet-like cases.

Yes. This is the one thing that annoyed me about my GBA and my SP. Both systems have broken shoulder buttons. Now I'm very paranoid and almost never use my shoulder buttons on my DS.
