i always catch males cause im sure i read some where that males have stronger attacks whilst females have stronger defense... and i always get to impatient to defend in pokemon ;P

There is no difference in stats between male and female Pokemon. It's only when breeding Pokemon that the gender matters (and of course when concerning attract). The baby Pokemon always takes on the mother's species. So as someone else in this forum pointed out, make sure your starter is female if you want to breed it in the hopes of getting one with better stats and if you want to properly train it's EV points for maximum stat increase.

I base my pokemon's gender through their looks, example: Blaziken as a Male and Skitty or Beautifly as Female.

I usually train males so I can pass down the moves they learn/teach them to any eggs they make. I do like to get female starters though, so I can get a starter with good IV's through breeding.

It depends if I want to name it. If I want to name it after my friend, and my friend is a girl, I'll be determined to get a female pokemon. If it's a guy, vice versa!

If I choose to be a guy, I usually get girl pokemon because I heard that they become happy faster if they're the opposite gender.

I always prefer the male character because I'm a guy. Ever since pokemon genders have been introduced I always chose male.

I generally dont care about gender, but with some of them it does matter to me, and ONLY if they have a special design for the male/Female versions. but ones that dont have a differance they dont really matter at all.

It doesn't really matter to me. The stats are not affected by the gender of the pokemon after all. So I usually have a mix of both genders in my party.

FemmesA female starter is mandatory so you can clone the bajeezus out of it. And female rares too. The gender for more common pokemon don't really matter to me unless I plan on breeding them.

It's good to have both..but I say both, because certain moves of the baby pokemon (especially those it doesn't suppose to have) will be obtained from the male pokemon, and basically the mother lays the egg.
