i've been reading an interesting book about the influential powers of the human mind. it claims that our minds are capable of somehow altering reality. for example, if you envision yourself winning a competition, and truly believe in that vision, you'll find yourself actually winning.so do you believe that positive thinking can really bring positive results? that somehow positive thoughts cause positive energy to affect the universe around us?

Basically,I think that thinking positively can keep your own morale up,which might cause good things to happen.Thinking negatively can make you bring yourself into a depressed mood, lowering your morale. So,I think that positive thinking does cause good results, but this is just my speculation.

Dont see how positive effects anything... Other then if you feel good about yourself for trying, you will try harder. If you tell yourself it's a waste of time, then you wont dedicate yourself to it as much. In my experience, the harder i try the harder i fall so i dont even bother with it anymore...What you said works better for being negative, if you think your getting a cold you will catch it.

If you were capable of winning the competition, thinking positively can certainly help you towards that goal. However, even if you were capable of winning the competition, thinking negatively may hinder your shot. Nothing is handed to us so motivation always plays a huge part in our successes because it influences how hard we are willing to work. As such, positive thoughts alone are not the only factor, but yes, they can be a factor in yielding positive results.

But I think that positive thinking can also make someone overconfidence. If I was overconfidence when join some competition, I will underestimate my rivals and that was a bad impact for the competition. In my opinion, positive thinking is not a bad idea but it depends on the situation too.

positive thinking is an influence if you think about it. Like gameplayer5 said if you have positive thoughts then your morale will be high. Morale does have an effect on how you do things. I told myself that I could eat 5 tacos without barfing and I was able to do it b/c I thought positive! Of course I barfed after the 6th homemade taco but maybe it was just the bad meat XDwait if it becomes overconfidence is it really positive thinking anymore?

i think having positive thinking is really good in terms of bring in positive attittude towards thingslet think about it this way, if you are happy, you are more likely to be efficient at work than if you hated itpositive thinking will give you more likely to be able to bring forth positive results, but i wouldnt say positive thinking will bring positive results..if it was that easy, everyone will be getting perfects on tests

Absolutely. The human mind can be very powerful with our decisions and actions. If we really believe in something, then our actions will be more significants and therefore our goals will be reachen faster.

Being positive has sometimes brought up big disappointments. This is why I am pessimistic. :)

It does to a certain extent, because you try harder and devote more energy to whatever it is you want to do. If you are also excited about it, your brain will release some endorphins that make you happy, and as being happy makes you feel healthier, and that in turn means better performance, you do better in general.Thinking negatively saps your energy.Of course, if you actually can't do it, then it won't help, but you'll do a bit better. Also, when you think that you will achieve something, and because of it, you do things that help you achieve that goal; it's called self-efficacy.

Positive thinking instills confidence, which ALWAYS produces positive results, depending on the outlook of the one doing the actual work...personal growth and all that :wtf:

Hmm....I don't think positive thinking can guarantee success right of the bat. I mean, if that is all it took, then surely people would fail a lot less just because they believed in themselves (or something like that) The way I take it, it has something more to do with "if you're gonna do something, do it with confidence rather than none and it will increase your chance of success"Say for instance there are two people who have the same amount of knowledge preparing to take an exam (and this is purely hypothetical since no two persons are the same) and they both take the same exam,One of them has confidence in passing the exam while the other didn't and was scared as heck. I'd wager that the positive thinking dude will do better since he'd be undertaking the task with a lot less anxiety as the other one. That's how I see it.

No, positive thinking doesn't do anything except make you feel good. It doesn't change the result of anything no matter how positive you feel.

Well thats true and not true at the same time, i mean you do actually have to have the ability to win but even if you can win that doesnt mean that you will you have to think that it is possible for you to win or you will just get demorolized and wont try as hard.

I wouldn't say it brings positive results, it just affects the way in which you perceive the events that occur around you. People who tend to think positively have an easier time finding the silver lining when something that is considered bad occurs.

mhmm, I read something about that book too :sly:The Secret, I think ?Yush, I believe in what's mentioned in that book :]Positive thinking is GREAT and actually I find it Lovable ^^although overdoing it with arrogance in the wrong times could be a deadly mistakelike believing in ur capability to jump over a 3 meter distance between cliffs for example =.="in order for you to make that thinking work positively, you must consider reality and all other angles and ideas about the thing you're about to go on withif you're going to think positive cause you like feeling good, dont do it, it will cause negative effects [ such as killing somebody because u think there's no one who could punish you or something ]if you're thinking positive because you've thought about it well and believe in it and REALITY approves... then way to go, thats a positive result :sly:

I believe that it can, but I also think sometimes believing something will go wrong makes the opposite happen.

Actually, yes this kind of thing actually works.my therapist taught me how to control my emotions by choosing whether or not to be that way.the mind is a powerful thing, if you want to bring about change in your thought process, or develop a certain mentality, you can will that to become reality if you want it bad enough.which is actually how behavioral therapy and mental hospitals work. I use the "power of positive thinking" to help me visulize hitting a stike while bowling. If I can take a couple seconds prior to throwing my ball to "go to my happy place", it allows me to ignore any distractions around me or in my life. Of course it is not a guaruntee that i hit a strike but I feel that the time used to clear negative thoughts and surround my brain with positive thoughts goes a long way towards achieving my goals. btw, my average is 172, good enough for 4th in my league.

i've read The Attractor Factor written by Joe Vital . "The secret shortcut to attracting whatever you want quickly" . I think we must believe in what we are doing in order to archive the result . We should keep making every effort not just sitting and expecting .
