the Wii has one year left starting NOW -- the Wii U is out so the Wii has one year -- just like Gameboy died when the Ds came out -- just like the Gamecube died when the Wii came out.

Dudes, seriously. This may hurt to type, but yeah, the whole system is obsolete according to the market at least. Make no mistake, it's still a fun system, but the Wii can't handle a lot of things. The Wii is the only later generation console I own, and I wouldn't have it any other way, but the Wii can't do HD. That is probably the biggest thing. Not to mention the fact that all of the technology in the system is from 2006. So from a purely technical standpoint, and from the fact that the Wii U is now out, the Wii is obsolete.

Even if the Wii U is out, I see it competing only against the PS3 and 360. Once the new ones come out later this year, I think Wii U will already be obsolete. They have the same advantage as before of being the first to market, but their sales reports are lacking.

The Wii is definitely obsolete. The Wii U is also obsolete because it uses old technology. Even the tech in the new PS3 is underpowered when compared to modern gaming PCs. That said, graphics aren't the main selling point of the Wii. The only think I like about the WIi U is the tablet controller. I will definitely purchase one if they make it possible to have more than one tablet controller for use. It'd be really fun for the party games, but they still limited you to only 1 tablet controller and using the wii remote or other controllers.

Wii doesn't have the best graphics out there but it's still great for kids and fans who like Nintendo games like Mario, Zelda, wii motion...
It's being use in the hospital and doctors office as a tool to learn or rehab.
I haven't seen much new games coming out of Wii but it doesn't make it a bad system.
It's still got tons of good games to play.

Well, the motion sensor is kind of screwed up on mine, so we don't really use it anymore. But it was fun while it lasted. The Wii is fun with friends and all, but when you don't have anyone around, the Wii just isn't all that great.

At this point with the Wii U out I would say the system is obselete.
Still, I don't understand all of the comparisons against PCs in this discussion either. A PC will always be more powerful then a console, but graphics aren't everything so why people put so much emphasis on them is beyond me.

Controls on some games are screwed to the point that it is unplayable. Sometimes the sensors don't really work well. So yeah, I think it is kinda obsolete compared to its enemy consoles.

I don't really want ultra-realistic graphics; it is a video game, after all. When we get into VR, that's another story, but I find myself satisfied with GC or Wii graphics. Heck, sometimes SNES does it right.

Wii is never obsolete. Like N64 and SNES it is always nice to go back to...that said the future games on Wii are doomed.

The Wii is a fun system, but because of the security holes that were present early on it was a difficult system to deal with and many developers avoided it because of the "Low power" or "Weird controls" or "lack of security." The security problems only came about because once the hole was discovered, hackers did everything they could to keep the hole open so every patch Nintendo sent out had the hole ripped back open.
The Wii U being what it is now as the Wii with more horsepower and storage makes a big difference, but still due to it being only around the Xbox 360 in power, and the once again odd controls, most developers avoid it... then again there is also the weird way Nintendo handles it's games to disk/cart. Being non-standard with formats makes things obscure.
The Wii itself is obsolete, but it lives on with the Wii U and later on with Whatever the NX ends up being.
