R4 can't play most single cart download play, but most multi-cart multiplayer games work.

With reference to my post in: game swopping and your MicroSD cardI'll like to know what's the most practical choice for a MicroSD card (2GB preferably) given the current range of MicroSD cards available on the market now to use with the R4.To elaborate - which of the following below will yearn the best results?1) ____ brand 2GB MicroSD + formatting in ____ kb clusters?or2) ____ brand 1GB MicroSD + formatting in ____ kb clusters?POINTS were deducted for this post by atomicknightPlease refer to the forum rules to find out why your points were deducted.

I've been trying to find a cheap Kingston 1GB card in the UK but it's not as easy as you'd think, every guy I ask on ebay/amazon only seems to have Taiwan stock not the faster Jap one :punk:

*edit* How do we know if the rom is badly written? This question is referring to the first page of this thread, sorry if it has been asked already.

If the rom isn't put on the micro SD properly, you can find out by1. checking the size of the rom2. check if the R4 display the rom info when highlighted3. check if the roms starts up at all

Alot of my friends have stuff like the R4 for their ds, but isnt using something like that breaking the law? its illegal to play pirated games? If its illegal how do stores still get away with importing/selling them?

The device its self is legal. Think of the R4 as a PC, its totally legal but you have the option to use it for illegal things, games movies what ever. (I have heard that they are banning items like the R4 in the UK so it depends on where you live)You can use the DS for Legal homebrews or to play music you have purchased ect.

Well my friends use it for playing DS roms, that in itself is illegal isn't it? Even if they aren't benefiting commercially from it they can still be persecuted?

as in a rom running on ur r4 ds with the wrong settings?not possible... DS games are designed to run on the DS, and the DS only. wrong settings are a figment of PC's and to a lesser extent consoles (due to diff tvs/cables)

R4 comes with moonshell, its a mp3 player, so its legal, what is not legal is you putting mp3s that you do not own, movies, and ds roms, its like you downloading pirated mp3s without paying for them, people will pirate things all the time, there is are a couple flash card companies in the united states ds-xtreme (not that good, with slow support) and the max media dock/player (also not that good and very buggy), both of them pass themselves off as a homebrew, mp3 multimedia player.

Do the people who have downloaded the things the ones that get sued? its always covered in the media as the distributors or such who make it possible for people to download those things in the first place? ie. roms

yep, if you are on a file sharing network and people are downloading off you then they can sue you, they dont care if you download they do care if you dsitribute it, thats how it is on music lawsuits anyways.

unless they are uploading them on the internet on their own websites or sharing them on the internet using programs like limewire then they are fine, the companies usually sue websites like dgemu, i know of several smaller rom websites that were suit down after receiving cease and desist letters from nintendo.

oh so as long as they do not actually promote the distribution of it, or try to make money from it they should be fine? They tell me to get the R4 too and roms as well, though I do not want to be convinced to do something illegal. This whole issue over copyright infringements is really confusing, as long as the person is not using the rom for commercial reasons, personal gains, or distribution the only place that should be sued is the site that provided them with the material to download rite? Cause one of my relatives works at futureshop and he told me that "using the R4 to play games is highly highly illegal and the cops can be called on you"

Even if you don't distribute, obtaining a rom for a game you don't own is still copyright infringement. It doesn't matter how noble your intent is.That said, copyright is civil law and not criminal law. The authorities aren't going to come after you for using an R4 unless the copyright holder (eg: Nintendo) specifically initiates an investigation of you, or if you're stupid enough to publicly flaunt that you're pirating, which amounts to a confession. Nintendo generally doesn't care about a few kids pirating games, as it's too expensive to be worth it to dig up the necessary proof. It's a more efficient use of their time to go after the big rom sites, and perhaps individuals who distribute online as it's easier to get proof there. Their success rate isn't very high though, as you can see.
