Very few games are coming out for the DS lately. Is this attributed to the release of the 3DS, or will the DS remain to function as a separate and active handheld gaming console? This happened with the GBA when the DS came out, with the PS when the PS2 came out, the PS2 when the PS3 came out, the XBOX when the 360 came out, the GameCube when the Wii came out, etc. Is this the same thing or will the DS continue to survive?

Have to stand in agreement with mononon and mohl here. I think the DS is still capable of survival, but the problem is that Nintendo likes money - and the money's now in 3D.

The new tablets like the ipad and others are much a bigger threat to the old DS systems than the new fangled 3Ds. Soon these tablets with superior memory and processing will be used to emulate the "old" DS games. The only thing the DS system has going for it is the number of games that exist for it ... that database is unlike that of most other gaming systems. But young kids will be the only ones that have these systems as the older kids get the iphones etc that are game capable. The interactive all capable phone will be a better draw for any teenager and beyond.When is Nintendo coming out with the DS interactive phone? ... soon I think since they do like to make money and tend to change their console every few months!!!

Yes, eventually the DS will fade out, but this will take years until the 3DS has a game library to match that of the DS. And perhaps Nintendo is planning to use DS games to cross-gen with 3DS games (like the DS Pokemon series).

I've just recently finished a few Final Fantasy games for the DS. I must that that I was quite impressed on how they blend action and RPG into the Crystal Chronicles series. I wish that square enix would put out more games in English like this. It would be cool if they developed an action rpg that could connect to the internet and play online with more than just a few players. I have high hopes for the future of hand-held gaming.

ds is pretty much dead now. 3ds is where it's at. but i'm not gon get it for a long while cuz i have too many roms left to play on my ds and the 3ds is too damn expensive right now anyway. can't wait till 3ds starts developing reliable flash carts
