red alert, yuri's revenge, battle realms ( both the first one and winter of the wolf ), starcraft and, warcraft... quite a long list but i havent played those games for almost a year now... i stopped playing when i got addicted to DotA.

Starcraft. It's gotta be the best war game I've ever known. It's got a great storyline, balance of powers among the 3 races, and an extensive map editor.

I actually prefer red alert 1.... old games are sometimes as good...Did one of you try spellforce? Thats a gigantic strategy/RPG styl game. Its a great game, but still: WARCRAFT RULES!!!

My favorite is Age of Empires. I know it's not rated as one of the highest, but I've liked it ever since I bought it.

Warcraft 3 TFT...its AWESOME even tho its old, its a shame blizzards not making Warcraft 4.....or will they?

Here we go, I'm getting all old-school on you guys.My favorite PC strategy game of all time is a DOS game called X-COM: UFO Defense. The combination of turn-based squad tactics, plus getting to build your own bases is great. Plus taking out aliens is fun.

Oooh. I forgot about those. I love the Koei games too. I've recently started playing Dynasty Tactics...nothing beats Koei's strategy games. Long live Romance of 3 Kingdoms XI !!

Plain strategy is such a hard game to choose... i think most people are inclined to choose rts games but to stay true to the topic i would have to say romance of the three kingdoms.

The best strategy game would have to be Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. You strategize on multiple levels: In space battles, land battles and the overall galactic map. Ontop of that the game has an interesting layer they call corruption... arguably a really neat idea. (At least I like it.)
